Afghanistan - 20 years on

On a slightly more serious note ManPADS generally top out at 10-15,000 feet while these airlines are at 30-40,000 feet - but with Iran and Pakistan having a range of surface to air systems I wouldn't entirely rule out the possibility of an attempt to bring one down though that requires a lot of training, etc.

On another note https://youtu.be/oROaRM5YeaY?t=104 I'm not a huge Biden fan anyhow but that in my book (see the rest of the video for context) is basically weasel words while a huge number of civilians are suffering and dying. Even a child can see at this point salvation isn't going to come from Afghan leaders working together. And that whispering into the mic at the end... has the guy totally lost the plot?

The amount of weapons they have seized from the ana is unreal, Taliban must be laughing all the way to paradise with the inept policies of the west and the Afghan gov/army they have to be stronger than they were pre invasion.

Feel for the woman/ children who are about to get the big clamp down and chained to the kitchen.

The trouble with countries like Afghanistan is that the only way to control it is to do it Old School like the Mongols and Romans did and rule through military strength and fear.

And no-one apart from the Chinese PLA are prepared to operate as SS Sonderkommando these days.

Why are the Taliban still against gender quality? The US/UK need to concentrate on the real issues for the planet.. not like boring humanitarian problems, there is a rock that is racist somewhere that needs moving.

Holy **** , imagine telling Afghani's who have been at war in one form or another that they don't want to find. How Insulting!!

What we're seeing is regression to the mean. Westerners need to realise that our type of society isn't for everyone. We can no more bomb them into liberal democracy than they can bomb us into Islamic theocracy. Wherever these ways of living overlap there will be friction.

ISIL is more known for that specific method but the Taliban have had people burned alive: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-south-asia-13579975

The other factor is that ISIL are quite happy to record and promote their atrocities, the Taliban operate more secretly.

Indeed apparently they are going around kidnapping and killing reporters etc to keep the truth of what they are doing hush hush.

They don't need to bomb us, just get the fat left to preach how good they are whilst they hate gays and woman's rights etc and we all fall in line to avoid being cast from society as a result.

We aren't bombing anyone to get them into a liberal democracy, we're typically on the side of people who want to do that in their own country because the people they oppose are brutal murderers and rapists.

I think we are seeing a regression towards what those, locally, with the most ability to wield power want society to be in countries like Afghanistan - I'm not sure as a whole the nation is leaning as much that way as it was even 20 years ago.

They've chopped that interview with the Taliban guy up a bit - some of the responses were to completely different questions to the one paired up with even.

Seen some footage from where they've over-run government bases, etc. where they are driving off with multiple trucks piled high with weapons and ammunition - in some cases it even looks brand new and unused.

Apparently around 1500 Humvees captured, god knows how many rifles and artillery. Even a UAV and a MI 29 captured.

And that's what we know.

Its pretty stupid for any news organisations to be giving religious fascists, (who thrive on propaganda) air time.

Afghan sports will be starting back up again in the football stadium, how many women can you crush under a stone wall, how long can the woman in the burka stay kneeling after you put a 7.62 through he head, etc etc. 20 years of Dead ISAF soldiers and Billions of dollars and were back to square one.
