Afghanistan - 20 years on

Some are saying aircraft are being shot at now.

Don't believe it is the case - the US has pulled in more close air support which in some cases seems to have resulted in possible sonic booms, etc. which people have thought were more attacks and/or attacks on aircraft.

At the moment though information is a bit vague.

There was a report earlier (from the Italian Defence Ministry) that one of their C130's had been fired at as it took off but they later retracted that saying the firing was not directed at the plane but "crowd control"....

"Gen. McKenzie says he doesn't believe #ISIS has the capability to take down an aircraft."

Just seen that - given the amount of MANPADS floating around with at least one Igla photographed in what seems to be ISIS hands (albeit nothing to say it was functional) and the number of "technicals" sporting ZU-23- I wouldn't be so sure (albeit a lot harder to use anti-aircraft guns against aircraft in these circumstances when DIY'd onto pickups, etc.).

Obviously once they'd climbed to altitude they'd be well out of reach of such weapons - but they have to get there first.

RAF C17 just spent ages circling and then flew away.

Dunno if it means anything but a lot of US Stratotankers on the move now - mostly heading back towards Qatar.

(There have been several operational throughout but not moving back in numbers like that before).

This is the problem with a centralised database. If the database/equipment get in to peoples hands with a very different agenda then anyone considered a dissident isn't safe.

my friend literally helped design that software over ten years ago, its got security built in incase soldiers get ovverrun, you literally tap the device 3 times and it erases all the date

US troops just abandoned them and left them in buildings absolutely unforgiveable and now taliban are going door to door with the devices, scanning people and if it goes green they execute them

he's in bits :(

Not to gloat but this is the kind of thing I've been saying - so much could have been done better in the last few days, weeks and months, without having to change the terms of the deal even.

Surely this will have been done. If not then just wow.

it’s not become clear the Western forces left behind all the data and documents that identify who worked with them against the Taliban.

Who ever is responsible has signed their death sentences via torture, and frankly, they themselves need prison time for this betrayal.

We are not, and have never been, good guys.

At this point adding more fuel won't make the fire any hotter
