Afghanistan - 20 years on

This was a week ago

I imagine it has been a free for all for a lot of weaponry so I wouldn't be surprised if ISIS got some G2A weapons, I guess though the Taliban are doing a good policing as it's a lot easier to walk around with a suicide belt than it is with Igla or Stinger and I'm sure they really don't want anybody bringing any planes down or attacking the airport while they have some seemingly good favour with their former enemies

I honestly am dreading flying east over Afghanistan.

Still not a great approach - even if a lot of it is older hardware, etc. the Taliban have acquired a ton of light armour vehicles some of it quite modern.

All that really means is that the Taliban riding in them stand a good chance of surviving when they run over forgotten IEDs. Noting that an AT4 or a SMAW can’t deal with.

Most airlines are avoiding Afghan airspace. In theory there aren't ground to air platforms in Afghanistan which can touch aircraft at 30-40+ thousand feet but I wouldn't 100% bet on it either :s

Yeah certainly i can understand at the moment that zone won't be accessible , eventually they will resume fly overs ... Who know what gears they have... Just thinking of MH17 and Ukraine. I will be bricking it even though chances are low.

To be fair unless Iran or Russia hands them fairly high end SAM's they're not reaching the 35,000+ that an airliner is going at; that's fairly specialist stuff.
Its why they kept flying over Ukraine; they thought it almost impossible that Rebels or the Ukrainian Army had anything capable of that height.

Not to gloat but this is the kind of thing I've been saying - so much could have been done better in the last few days, weeks and months, without having to change the terms of the deal even.

It's clear to see that nobody in charge gives a ****.
