Age of conan - World of warcraft

wow what a useless thread. blah blah blah. who cares make up your own minds, don't need to listen to imo .... may as well read reviews at least they actually talk about the games with a little more depth.

flamesuit on

Evidently you cared enough to read the thread, and then take the time to make a post on it too. The OP asked for some opinions and people have given him some.

If you dont like that, then I suggest that you simply dont click on the thread and read it...quite simple really. Course then you wouldnt get to make a whiny QQ post about it for +1 post count.

This is disappointing reviews from you lot. Was thinking about AoC after finding the playable cartoon WOW pretty much lacking anything of any real substance.

:(

You'll get the same response on a lot of forums just because WoW is so popular. I personally prefer AoC but try it for yourself and then decide.

Actually i think this thread has been a pretty good discussion into AoC and MMOs in general, lets keep it up and not degrade into tripe. Also, its not like 'reviewers' have some special body gland that means their opinion on games is better than yours or mine, their only advantage is that they play more games than the average gamer, but seeing as there is only like 3-4 mainstream European MMOs it isnt a stretch to think some of the people commenting here have played them all. Is AoC a 10/10? a 2/10? how can you put a number on a game? how does that even work. Thats why i dont trust reviewers, theres nothing special about them, and they try to cram an entire game into a numerical value.

(yes i read penny arcade :D )

Shouldn't be rules on ganking, it's part of being on a PvP server, as frustrating as it is you signed up for it the moment you selected PvP.

I don't know all the facts of the problem but from what I can gather this guild runs around in groups/raids of like 100 people killing everything. They do this a lot so its not just a one off thing. Personally i don't see the problem with funcom talking to them about the situation.

edit: may be the 100 is an exaggeration :p

Thats part and parcel of a FFA MMO though, Funcom must have known that would happen, I mean its happened in every FFA mmo for over a decade. If they didnt want that happening then they should have implemented an ingame system for preventing it, rather than having a GM turn up and say, no..stop doing that, stop it or we'll kick you off the game.

heh you really don't have experience with the goons (the guild thats doing this). Its not your normal group of players. This kind of thing hasn't been seen on any of the euro pvp servers afaik so its clearly not "common place". Will be interesting to see how funcom handle it if it continues.

Ganking is pointless theres no other word for it, its not skill. You dont sign up to be ganked just because you join a PvP server. Ganking is NOT part of PvP.

Killing some one while they are low on heath or someone a lot lower than your lvl is idiocy, it just doesnt make sence why WoW and AoC let it happen.

PvP is all about faction city raids or guild fighting or just generally making the game more alive/harder - not about some snotty kid getting an ego trip or letting out his prepubesent anger on low lvl players.

I seem to remember reading on AoC there is going to be 'concequence' in PvP, exactally what that means i dont know. I do know killing people a lot lower lvl than yourself or when someone is already ingaged in combat should give the offending person negative xp or make it very hard for them to get into certain citys to trade.

They're changing the PvP system soon as it was one of the things on the lead dev's list of things to rework/fix. Your first paragraph is the sole reason i will always roll on a PvP/FFA PvP server :)

I have had much much worse than the Goons...I spent 4 years in UO, with enormous gank guilds that went around not only killing you, and corpse camping you, but looting everything off your body when they did it. Your weapons, your armour, your crafting resources, your gold, everything. What the Goons are doing in AoC is tame compared to that :D

You're right, it isnt skill. But the point is that you expect it in a FFA PvP environment...you create a place where anybody can attack you at anytime, and you can bet thats exactly what they will do. Over and over, with bigger numbers and bigger levels.

Now they could implement a similar murder system to UO, where once you killed a certain number of people you turned "red" and couldnt go into towns to trade and various other issues. It puts a bit of a consequence on it, it wont stop it from happening of course, but would lessen the amount of times it happens.

On the other hand, if they want the pvp to be about guild fighting, then they could always just drop the FFA aspect altogether, and make it about guilds declaring war on each other which flags the members of the guild towards each other only.

What they need to do is look at what the reasons are that people want FFA, and what they want to be able to do in regards to PvP within FFA...and from that they should be able to tell whether or not theres actually a need for FFA, or whether GvG would suffice as a ruleset.

Tombstone you forgot about cutting the corpse up ;)

Oh yeah, absolutely...quite imaginative layouts they used to come up with for the body parts :)

And not to forget in the early days when they could use a small knife to skin your flesh off your corpse, then cook it on a fire and eat it. :D

I can imagine FFA making all sorts of problems when questing. What if someone in the party in disbands just before your about to get some phat loot or complete a quest and kills you. - ok i know that could be RP'ed but it just wont happen like that.

Im on the RP PvP AoC server and have so far only been killed by people 10+ lvls higher than me, also with no RP whatsoever. If they call a server a RP PvP then they need to implement things to stop ganking.

I'm waiting a couple of months then going back to AoC, it's clearly not been finished enough before release but it has got potential.

could turn out in a flaming tread but im neutral.

I think wow is really detailed game with a big world. but world of hyboria is more suitable for me then wow.

i never was a big fan of a rts wow series so i dont know the story as only orcs fight humans.

the graphics of wow did not appeal to me i know some people say its not in a graphics but in game play i totally agree but to have good visuals and good game play it it would be much better. but then it creates different issues as not all people has gaming rigs to play it on all high and etc...

im still @ lvl 20 in aoc as i dont rush trough a levels like other people im trying to do all quest as i can find and enjoy the game.

how ever aoc has its on bad points its not so open well at least till lvl 20 i heard my friend saying is much harder and open world after lvl 20 when u get of the island but is still have to witness is.

the controls is bit hard to get use to as i still did not find to bind a key to a passive skill / potions / stands

the game has few bugs as its just out.

end of the day if you finished everything on wow and u getting bored of it get a month break from wow and try aoc. Bu be aware u need good gaming system to see al nice visuals

if you dont like grinding then i recommend do not level past 65, i have not found any worthwhile quests and those i do find do not give enough experience so i have grinded for the past 7 levels, the boredom is amplified by the fact you gain less xp when in a group so you cant even play with friends
