Age of Conan

It will still suck though.

I wish they had made sadism trigger after only 5 hits rather than 8/10. It just never gets triggered for me.

looks like you're killing stuff too quickly then :p

i'm 55 now, went up the feat tree which increases the chances of it triggering and pretty much every other mob it triggers (rarely to 10x though). funnily enough, when i'm farming pigs i can get it up to 10x easy.

Subscription cancelled, I prefer WoW to AoC, possibly because I'm end game raiding in WoW and just wasn't enjoying the levelling in AoC (or the poor frame rates and multiple bugs).
I may give it another try in a few months time, depending how WotLK works out in WoW.

I don't think I'll be renewing either, but this won't stop me recommending it as a game I've enjoyed. I'm now at the Fields of the Dead and every quest appears to be 'kill 30 Vanir'. My Guardian is hard as nails and at earlier levels seemed to do decent damage. It's gradually tailed off and I can't be bothered to grind, especially since a lot of the later levelling appears to be grind as well. A shame because I really enjoyed the overload of quests at earlier levels.

Additionally I'm a tiny bit concerned about how tanking might go later. There's one snap aggro ability I have (talented) and it's on a 2 minute cooldown. If someone pulls aggro off me, doing a decent combo takes 4 keypresses with a small delay between each one. It just seems a tiny bit clumsy.

I stopped playing weeks ago as the game is not for me. It does not feel like a massive online game and the PvE is far too simplistic with the daftest most tacked on crafting system I have come across.

I am dissapointed as I was looking for a good new MMO. Anyway I have started playing the much improved Vanguard again and so far so good.

I have not played any PvP in AoC and if it were really good I would understand why people liked the game. I should not badmouth a game that allot of you are enjoying, but I predict that in the months to come once the novelty and shiny graphics have worn players will just loose interest.

Cancelled my subscription and will be checking it out in a few months time. The whole grey-elite change has really put me off playing the game, not only because it's restricting to how I want to play, but because it really shows FunCom's recent attitude and behaviour.

There's also the:

Unbalanced classes (yes, I'm aware that this will change in time)
Extreme Instancing (clearly to accomodate 360 users)
Poor performance on above spec machines
Bugged quests
Bugged Feats
Bugged Tooltips
Bugged Mobs
Bugged areas
Useless Guild Cities
Infestation of utter morons
Bugged Crafting
Rubbish Itemisation
Lack of Content
Constantly Broken Promises
Outright Lying by FunCom
Higher European Subscription Cost
Rubbish Collector's Edition in-game rewards
Broken CE activation key
Foliage and trees spin with the camera
Lack of a decent travel system
etc
etc
etc

Just not for me at the moment, perhaps not at all, I'll see tomorrow as to what changes with the patch and if they've actually listened to the community (not that they really pay attention to the European community, despite us paying more) as to whether I renew. Chances are I'll take a couple of months and poke my head back in and see if they've done even half of the things they said were going to be in at release.

The 40s were boring for me but now I'm 55 and in the Eiglophian mountains and it's a lot more fun, more varied quests with a good range of difficulty in a relatively small space so less trekking. My only gripe about that zone is that there's no trader in the upper outpost. I've joined a largish guild so there's also people to group with all the time, and we have a bit of a blood-feud going on with these two other large guilds so levelling always includes exciting little PvP diversions... me and a friend being jumped on by 2 higher-levels, killing one, getting the other one down to 10% health just as a third guildie of theirs comes and saves him, or us being chased around by 4 of them, hiding, doubling back, stalking them and jumping on them as soon as their group separates. The other night I was being chased around by 3 of them, so I aggroed a large group of mobs, turned back, and ran them straight towards the people who were chasing me, and let them kill each other while I jumped into the river and swam to safety. Last night I was standing on a ledge on top of a large group of mobs, hoping to carefully aggro them one at a time with my bow, when this guy jumps out of hiding behind me, uses a knockback to knock me off the ledge and smack in the middle of the entire mob camp! :D

Tanking is really hardcore in this game, whenever I'm in a dungeon with a group I usually know within the first 2' how good the tank is and how likely we are to survive. If the tank doesn't have complete mastery of his role it's really easy to steal aggro from him. I'm a 2H barbarian so I don't do nearly as much damage as the dual-wielding barbarians, or the Heralds or the Tempests, but one combo is usually enough for a mob to turn away from the tank and towards me, and then I'm in a dilemma, do I trust the tank to pull aggro back, or do I run back, potentially leading them mob towards our healers? Sometimes if there's a lot of mobs I prefer to play a bit of a linebacker role, sitting by our healers and stunnning or knocking back any mobs that come towards them, giving our tank a few more seconds to get aggro back to them.

Im not going on it very much either so i think i will postpone my subscription. Not really anything to look forward to thats working at the moment. Big mistake releasing it now.

Unfortunitally PCZone gave it a less than great review. Shame, as this will put a lot of sheep - people who follow the crowd - off.

It seems WoW influence has put a lot of people off. I also know for a fact that keeping people in a MMO is a harsh one and Blizzard, with all their godlike powers, can influence magazines and players to introduce smear compaigns.

But all in all this will hopefully wittel out the weak ;)

Im a casual (EDIT : Mature) gamer and im still finding AoC to be right down my street, maybe Warhammer will be better, but it will still have the might of WoW to smear its release.

I trimmed your list down to the points I agree with. The game has problems yes but tbh funcom have recognised most of them and are working on them.

Guess we'll have to wait and see how they do.

I have to kill them before they kill me :p

Im also 55 and have maxed out masochism and vile soul which is supposed to help the triggering, the only time i can stay alive long enough to reach 8 is when im fighting a load of minions.

Mondays patch seems to me like the DT's damage is better, though i may be imagining it. I just wish i could get sadism to activate.

I think you're being unfair on a lot of your points. You've obviously grown used to playing a certain way and expect the game to accomodate you, but that's just not possible when it also has to cater to its (at the moment) 700,000 other subscribers!

OK, so you're saying you wanted to solo those dungeons and they stopped you from doing it. Fair enough, that's how you want to play, but surely you see that being able to get if everyone who hit 50 was able to solo Sanctum and get every single good drop for himself it would ruin the economy? FC saw it as a problem and stopped it, you're not MEANT to solo elite instances (and in fact it was a bug that allowed you to do so), so I don't see what's wrong with their "attitude".

Unbalanced classes (yes, I'm aware that this will change in time)
Yep, totally agree with that one, although I'm not sure that it will change in time - every MMO is a bit "rock, paper, scissors" when you're fighting 1v1. The balance might alter a bit, and they might smooth down the advantage one class has over another, but it'll still be slightly unbalanced 1v1, just like every other online game, because it's a problem inherent in the class system, and it facilitates interesting group play. The only online game that never had to worry about stuff like that was Guild Wars because it gave you henchies right from the start.
Extreme Instancing (clearly to accomodate 360 users)
I don't mind that. It has its good and bad points, but I think the good outweight the bad.
Poor performance on above spec machines
Yep, true that.
Bugged quests
Totally! But they're getting quite quick at fixing them.
Bugged Feats
That one they're not so quick about, some of the Barbarian ones have been broken since release. Guess the Feats team are dealing with one class at a time.
Bugged Tooltips
They're not bugged, just crap. :p
Bugged Mobs
Haven't encountered that many of those.
Bugged areas
As above. What do you mean?
Useless Guild Cities
At the moment, but tbh not enough of the population has reached level 80 and built a t3 guild city for it to matter.
Infestation of utter morons
Maybe it's cause I'm in an RP-PvP server but I totally disagree, it's much friendlier than any other game I've played. No leetspeakers, no griefing, no trash-talk. I regularly team up to do quests with peeps from guilds that my guild has a bitter and merciless war against!
Bugged Crafting
Can't comment on that, haven't tried it yet.
Rubbish Itemisation
The descriptions on the items are insufficient, but I think the items themselves are very well balanced. AoC was never meant to be about who has the biggest sword, it's about player skill over item bonuses, and I don't understand why ANYONE would rather it were otherwise!
Lack of Content
Level 56 and still a full quest journal here.
Constantly Broken Promises
Give them time.
Outright Lying by FunCom
Like?
Higher European Subscription Cost
Actually I worked it out when the costs were first announced and the USD cost was higher. Remember, we pay 17% VAT on everything. The dollar has dropped a bit more since then so in direct-equivalence it may be a bit more now, but you can hardly blame FC for currency fluctuations!
Rubbish Collector's Edition in-game rewards
Speak for yourself, I love my mammoth!:D
Broken CE activation key
Yeah that was annoying, but they got back to me in 24hrs with a new key when I emailed them.
Foliage and trees spin with the camera
Looks fine on mine....
Lack of a decent travel system
Yeah, this game is particularly bad for long treks, I reckon it's deliberate to keep the population of low-level areas high while people level up. It's cool when you're fighting some folks from a rival guild and you're being overwhelmed by numbers, and then suddenly 3 level 70s from your guild charge in on their warhorses to the rescue!:D In time I think they'll introduce more wagons or something, when it won't be as necessary to keep people spread out anymore.

That IMHO would be the WORST mistake they could possibly make! The community knows ****-all about making MMOs, and I'm sure people could make a thread 12 pages long with all the great online games that have been ruined because the devs listened to "the community".

EDIT: Nevermind, what I've said is well-known and wide-spread. Besides, I'm not in a mood to try and justify my opinion. If you like it, that's fine.

Well, while I agree that the game has some serious problems, it seemed to me you were acting somewhat over-emotional over some of them. Yes, lack of content is annoying, broken quests are annoying, but bugged mobs? Big deal, every MMO has them. Even in games that have been out for years and are polished and bug-free the occasional mob that doesn't attack back will crop up. Your talk of broken promises and lies was what riled me up - it's obvious you were disappointed with the game, but you were verging on the irrational there. There's a tendency among gamers to treat games devs as the girlfriends who dumped them and I think it's depressing.

You know what'll get me to quit this game? If, by the time I've reached 80, they haven't fixed sieging! Some guys on the US servers tried it (there's a thread about it on the US forums if you're interested) and it's apparently completely broken: walls have "holes" in them where you can clip through, framerates are in the 1-10FPS range, siege engines don't work and people can get locked out of the zone the siege is held in. Any amount of bugs is acceptable as long as the game is playable and enjoyable, but if there's a complete lack of endgame PvP content when I reach 80 THEN I'll say the game should not have been released yet.

That could have been avoided IF they had let us test the sieging in the closed beta. But no...instead they told us that sieging was being tested internally and was working fine so there was no need for it to be publicly tested. Despite mine, and many others, words that not publicly testing such a core system was idiocy, they continued to say it was being tested internally and everything was working

They didn't update the game today as they said they would every monday and thursday at 04:00 - 08:00.

Which is fine and all, but thing is, they didn't tell anyone they weren't going to. In fact, they said they were going to update in some posts...

Kinda sums up Funcom's terrible customer support really.

People are a bit miffed! :D
