Age of Conan

That's something else that is slightly annoying now. Years ago you used to be able to jump on any server be it US or UK but now you only have Europe and US - really strange. I can understand it from a ping and time of day point of view but there should still be an option in my opinion.

I agree, it is annoying having to buy a game from the US. Just give us the choice which server we want to play on and give everyone the same client.

Wasn't it WoW that started the whole regional server thing, I remember the amount of consternation it generated when it was first announced.

Speaking for myself, I just have a habit (addiction?) to buying almost any and all new mmo's and playing them for at least the first free month.

I think it's the new experience that I enjoy the most regardless of the actual game. :)

I can never understand why anyone would want to get ANY mmo on the day of release. It's always chaos, down servers, congested logins, horrible lag, and angry players.

Wait a couple of weeks for things to calm down, and you get to see what the game is actually like behind all the launch day horrors.

top guilds have to be top levels.

EQ2 doesn't force it at all unlike others.

My mistake I couldn't remember whether it was DAoC or EQ2. After thinking about it, it was DAoC as that was the first game I played after AC and was disappointed as all the US guys were on different servers.

Just a few questions before i pre order.

Is the game worth getting?

What games is it like?

i really want a new MMORPG but theirs not many to choose from as an Ex-woW player.

I'm in the same boat as you Sinny, want a new MMORPG and I've actually preordered it, but what I thought it was about (PvP focussed) at first doesn't seem to hold from reading some of the comments here. As much as I actually prefer PvE the sound of multiple instances (and not just the dungeons) and the like seems to be a big turn off.

I'm even considering cancelling my order.

I get where you are coming from, as Much as i like PVE i only really like MMO-RPG games for the player v player, team matches, brawls, leaderboards. I just this second pre-ordered it but im having second thoughts as i dont want one path (PVP) to be boring.

Everything i have played after WoW has felt like a stepdown to be fair.

With a little luck, you'll get the opportunity to try the beta at some stage. Its really the only way to know whether or not you'll like the game without having to pay something. I mean I can say whether or not its worth getting, and what games its like..but that will only be from my perspective.

Equally anyone else can tell you if its worth getting and what games its like, but that will only be from their perspective.

Thats why i want it from the perspective of an Ex WoW player, WoW was the best fun i had in any game so far in my gaming history. I want a new MMORPG (going to get one anyway) but i want to be sure that its better than any other one out yet. Usually if the Majority like it i will too.

Just need a personal opinion.

I played WoW for nearly 4 years, I've raided everything in the game up to the sunwell. I was addicted.

I stopped around the turn of this year and i was then invited into the general beta.

This game moves the genre away from the generic WoW style mmo and into a sort of misty future.

The game's combat mechanics are next gen. I know that phrase gets thrown around a lot, but it really is. Combat is exiting and always changing. The fatalities are great fun to watch, extremely good fun to execute.

The graphics are beautiful, the environments, the towns and cities, the character models and the overall feel. Its very mature, decapitated bodies, bodies on spikes, heads on spikes, blood, guts, it doesn't hold back.

Monsters don't feel randomly placed, they feel like they're there for a reason. The adaptive shields of the mobs are really great fun, it keeps you constantly on your toes and you cant just spam buttons.

The negatives are the mass instancing of the zones. At first it used to bug me badly and annoy me, but they've reduced loads times from 1-3 mins down to 1-10 seconds, depending on factors. With the instancing it allows you to do a single player style side to the game where it feels like your impacting on the world.

Without sounding completely biased, if this game doesn't succeed, then there wont be another mmo with as much potential as this in a very long time.

I've pre-ordered this and WAR although for some reason I just cannot see AoC having as much content as WAR. Although I could be wrong.

I would say thats a reasonably fair assessment from Teki.

I did play WoW , from around 2004 to early 2007, eventually leaving when I finally admitted to myself that the PvP was essentially pointless and really quite poor. PvP being the most important thing to me in an MMO.

However, I wont give my detailed thoughts on AoC because as I say, it wont help you all that much as it will just be my opinion and I wont necessarily like and dislike the same things as you. I didnt like it because it didnt match what I look for in an MMO, but as you can see from Teki's post it certainly has a lot of positives to it for some types of players.

I will keep my fingers crossed that you get access to the beta so that you can truly form a decision.

Thanks mate, exactly what i wanted to hear. From reading opinions, watching videos and listening to peoples experiences i will keep my pre order. I really like the atmosphere from the videos i have seen and hopefully will have a thriving community which is what i really love out MMO's.

Cheers.

Its been said that outdoor zones after release day wont have multiple instances (they will be zoned), i would wait and see how it pans out first. There is a lot more focus on PvP now, compared to earlier beta tests.

I have to get on, on release day. I have a guild of over 100members that need to know what server to join and get the guild up and running asap so we can get the members in it. I'll be there from the first minute the server opens. I have the week off as it happens too.
