Nah not really, at a basic level I didnt like the game. Simply isnt my kind of MMO, I am not a big fan of instancing/zoning/loading screens, having to go to a loading screen everytime I zoned, went into a building, exited a building, died and rezzed, went into a dungeon, exited a dungeon, and in some cases a loading screen when going into a door in a dungeon...just annoys the hell out of me. I remember one quest early on where you have to go to a loading screen no fewer than 8 times, 4 of which involved zoning to a loading screen to enter/exit a 1 room area. What with all the zones being instanced as well its just not my style of MMO. Aside from that the pvp just wasnt the sort of PvP I look for in an MMO. Like I say, no sense in me downloading 20-odd gig again for a game which doesnt match my wants, and without even knowing whether they did turn off my beta account or whether it still works, that really would be a waste of time

I didnt give up..nobody should work to like a game, you either like a game on the whole, or you dont. In my case I just didnt like it. Nothing wrong with that of course, everyone has different tastes, I didnt like EQ2, Guildwars or DDO either, doesnt mean I gave up on them , its just they didnt deliver what I expect in an MMO

AO vet and as of yet nothing as pulled me away from AO so will give this a go.Although I play wow now and then to remind me what half decent graphics look like :p

AO graphic update that is coming also looks interesting.

Pretty much. I remember AO when it was originally out (beta tested it) - they promised so much and failed to deliver. It was so buggy on release that in fact it should never have been released.

The fact that AoC is having monsterous patches thrown at it (and the release date being the 20th May) suggests that the game is no where near ready (and this is with the release date being pushed back 8 weeks - originally supposed to have been released end of March).

Obviously AO is still going with most of it being free for several months (to me this shows how disastorous the games gone) I know people out there will love AO but for me I prefer a game to come out that is at least polished (WoW / LOTRO / AC / etc.) rather than them fire-fighting. This then cuts into development time for the game updates and then they become buggy and you're in a never ending loop.

The fact that they haven't even finished AoC and have already started on another MMO (The Secret World) and the fact that they were working on Midgard which got cancelled before AoC (probably used parts of Midgard in AoC) makes me cringe. I certainly won't be getting it.

I guess from one of your posts you admit to liking WAR over AoC. That would explain the reason you dont like it.

But hey, i'd prefer playing a mmo with people then playing war with no players.

Again the defensive/closet insult post...truly I dont understand it.

I like PvP, we agreed that AoC pvp was poor, so yes I prefer WAR. I really cant understand why you seem so offended that I dont like AoC. Seems like its some kind of personal affront to you or something.

As for War having no players? I really dont know why you think that, my prediction is that WAR and AoC will quite likely have around the same number of subscriptions, I'm predicting around the 1 million mark for both of them.

As I say, no idea why it is you get so defensive when someone doesnt like AoC..I dont know whether its low self esteem, or a belief that because you like something everyone else should and if they dont they are wrong, or whether its just childish forum-wars or what. Beats me I must say.

I prefer games with no instances. e.g. even tho Vanguard was a buggy piece of poo being able to hunt any one anywhere was really fun.

I also hate loading screens they ruin the immersion.

BUT

If AOC is a really decent long term game, receiving lots of constant love and good PVP (does not need to be 100% balanced for loners who like 1v1 PVP but just balanced enough for group PVP to mean the best team wins)! Then I can easily put up with loading screens and instances :)

/Prays AOC turns out decent and not another flop

Not having played the beta of either I would probably back Mythic over Funcom going on past performance. AO was almost as buggy as Vanguard on launch.

Does that also go for the reverse? Personally I can't stand it when people jump on the 'I love this game' band wagon and defend it to the hilt. You then go and play it and it's a bug-ridden pile of tosh. It certainly doesn't take a week to find that out.

I spent a lot longer than 1 week in AoC beta, and having reached the level I did, I think I played/saw more than enough to make an educated decision that it simply wasnt the style of MMO that I like. Thats ok though, thats just me, as I have always said certain types of player will love AoC I'm sure. Just not for me.

I cant really say that trash talking really bothers me, its just a video game..hell some people trash talk the type of car I drive and that doesnt bother me, thats their opinion...and thats something tangible that I own rather than a pointless video game.

A work colleague of mine hates PvP, he says that pvpers are retards and griefers, his favourite MMOs are EQ2 and WoW. I , of course, like PvP , its the major reason I play MMOs, my favourite MMOs are UO (the best) and Daoc because of this. Needless to say, the guy at work is usually trashtalking pvpers and pvp. Thats ok, thats his preference and his choice. Doesnt bother me.

I can still access the AoC beta forums, so I guess Funcom didnt disable my beta anyway. Still cant be bothered to waste my time downloading the client again though, no point as its a game that doesnt fit my wants. So I guess I will just give my account away, probably give it to the guy at work as I think it might suit him more.

Personally I am very happy that you love AoC Teki, because it means one more satisfied customer and one more continued MMO player in the genre. Equally I am sure that you are very happy that I love WAR, for the exact same reason. More people playing MMOs can only be good for everyone
