Age of Conan

Welcome to the launch of MMO's =p

Only smooth one I can remember was lotro, when I hit level 5 on wow launch my graphics card overheated =p but i heard it went pretty smooth as well.

WoW launch was terrible.. you have to wait in 1000+ queues to even get onto a server that would crash, i think we got a few days free game time as a sorry for the mess. But it was worth it, WoW was one of the favourite games for a while but as with everything you get bored.

Dark Age of Camelot's was pretty good too, but that's about the only other one I can think of.

Any information on the 3 day pre player for UK players?

I've not been able to find any good information and the people from play are as thick as 2 short planks.

"If i ordered Age of Conan with 3 day pre play and you removed the option from the advertisement on your site, does that mean i still get the option?"

"sorry sir, a pre order game means you cant play it until its released"

The latest I've read is that we need to pay 5 Euro for the 3-day access, though at the moment I don't know if even that is available to the UK gamers. I'm a bit annoyed at that after pre-ordering the game though hopefully the War Rhino will make up for that since inventory slots are apparently limited compared to other MMO's.

Yes, we have to pay 5 Euros, just as America has to pay $5. If you preorder the game, any edition, you'll get a three day headstart you can start downloading on the 17th, and start playing on the 20th. The charge is for bandwidth, and you're essentially paying for 10 days playtime, which you'll get as another bonus. You also get a mount and an inventory belt.

*redundant post alert*

I'm going to be seriously unhappy if this game doesn't live up to my expectations. I pre ordered it and built a new machine specifically for the task. I'm planning camping out at my front door with a thermos and wooly bobble hat... coiled like a nerdy spring.

I'm not in the pvp weekend.

Gackt, let me see if i understand this right.

People who pre ordered will get 3 day pre play? If thats right, how do i gain access to the 3 day pre play when play wont send me the code?

Also does anyone have any link to the 5 euro thing?

Thanks.

I was enjoying it until people found out about stunlocking with a Demonologist and Tempest of Set. Long stuns have no place in a game which is centred on PvP.

Fights are over way too quickly. Funcom seem to have a completely different philosophy compared to Warhammer devs, who want PvP to be fun all the time - ie no stunlocking and "time to kill" more than 6 seconds.

Conan's PvP is more like an fps like Quake 3. Other parts of the game are going to have to be something special to make me want to pay a monthly sub instead of playing an online fps game for free.

The half life 2 mod, Age of Chivalry is more fun.

I cancelled my pre-order and will wait until I hear more about the PvE side of the game.

Graphics are nice but there's a bit of Vanguard syndrome creeping in with some occasional jerkiness in the pvp arena when the fighting got busy, and that's with only about a dozen players on screen fighting. I played on low settings at 1280x960. In the lobby area I was getting a steady 60fps but in the arena it would vary quite a bit and drop below 30 when multiple spell effects were going off. Which look amazing buy the way, probably the best spell effects in any mmog.

It is fun if you enjoy the speed of an fast paced fps with your PvP, the combat system works well and is refreshingly different from the norm. Although there are plenty of special attacks which you can spam like every other mmog.

I've tried most of the classes and the casters are very interesting and the barbarian is a lot of fun. If I eventually buy the game I would most likely stick to the rogue and mage classes.

It's a definite 'wait and see' for me.

Obviously my opinion is based solely on the two mini PvP arenas and the first 5 lvls of PvE. The overall experience of the whole game will undoubtedly be better. This was just a very small taster of the game but for me, it tasted bad.

oh, no nipples was another let down :'( but tech beta testers assured me they would be in the final version :)

As I understand it, you'll get sent the code from the 2nd of May onwards. As that's when registrations start. Then I assume you'll be able to pay, and then come the 17th, start downloading for your early access on the 20th.

wow this looks amazing!! just a bit meh i dont have a DX10 gfx card :(

so whos going the full hog and getting the collectors edition? £60 ?

I'm starting to dislike AoC more and more atm. Healing is sooo hard. there i no easy way to select group members that i had found. I can have a custom UI to aid this. Its not gunna be fun as a healer....

Just pre-ordered my copy with War Rhino mount, decided to pass on the Collector's Edition as the rewards don't really seem worth it. Now I just need to get a rig capable of running it :p

I believe the idea is that it's supposed to be harder, instead of just standing there clicking on the UI, spamming skills (such as in WoW), you actually have to be there near them healing them in a more 'realistic' and 'challenging' way.

Stunlock is a game killer, I will wait for Warhammer or just stick with wow.

Problem with that is that healing even with a UI is harder than just clicking on the UI. Unless you outgear the content and have it on farm. But yet again the Tank, Healer and DPS raid model is a flawed snore fest.

I quite enjoyed for a bit. Seemed very hit and miss depending if the pug i was in had a clue or not, so i can see rolling with a guild to be far far better.

Remember this was only level 20, so the stun lock thing may be less of an issue with higher levels with classes maybe getting stun immunity or skills to un-stun.

Was fun running around with the ranger pre-bow-nerf shooting ppl for insane damage ;]

Had a little play with all the characters, and the ones that stood out for me personally were the ToS and the barbarian. Necro and Demo were a laugh too.

Before spending any monies on it though I would really need to play more of the pve side, as the combos i can see getting old quite quickly.

Yea i get that buts its hard to know the health of people. TBH if i can't get a decent healing ui i won't bother. and just got assasin.

The UI definitely needs some work and I really didn't like the chat interface, urgh. Still, I imagine these things will get changed or at least we'll get some degree of customisation hopefully.

I've been signed up at the AOC Forums since 2005 and still no luck with Beta access. I won't be paying Fileplanet for the privelige of a 'chance' at a beta key either
Anyway, i've preordered the normal edition from Play for the free Rhino (at Lvl 40). The CE was way too much money for a couple of crappy items (xp ring etc) and a load of extra goodies i'll put on a shelf to gather dust.
As a conan subscriber I hope they are still honoring us with the drinking cape that was promised (another reason to skip the CE).
As for the 3 day head start .... well in Europe it ain't going to happen (US only) so we won't be playing till the 23rd on the Euro servers.

Looking forward to a new MMO. Hope AoC lives up to my expectations :D
Any UK guilds forming on a PVE server ? Drop me a line ;)
