Age restrictions on the sale of alcohol now TOO tight?

My brother is 33 and he gets ID'd all the time. I think it kinda runs in the family. Last week the police came round because someone reported me looking too young to be driving lol. I'm 19.

What makes me laugh is that if you go through a checkout and the assistant is under 18 all they have to do is shout "alcohol" and continue, this happened to me the other day, I asked who she was shouting at but no-one came over or anything. So it appears you can sell it at any age just not drink it unless you look over 21.

sadly I never get asked for i.d.:(

I never get queried becaue I look my age, but I'll tell you what's more irritating than being asked to produce ID. Having the person on the checkout refusing to sell you alcohol due to the fact that they're too young!

How hard is it to carry ID? I am 33 and get ID'd. I don't moan (in store or on the Internet) I just pull out my ID and get the booze, go home, fumble with the wife, finish well before she is ready and go to sleep.

Maybe if I didn't carry ID the wife would get better sex, no? :D :p

Just keep your drivers licence in your wallet, its no big deal - they often have to do it because their supervisors tell them to step it up. I still get ID'ed and I'm 23, but It doesn't really matter.

When they ask oaps for id thats a little silly though.

ID is something that slightly irritates me actually. I don't drive, thus I don't have a drivers license and I don't travel, thus my passport is out of date. And I havn't a clue where my birth certificate is. Yet people seem to think everyone has these things to hand at any given time. :/

Just popped into the local co-op for a few cans on a sat night... and got refused. The crazy thing is I'm 29 and LOOK 29. I'll be 30 next month for christs sake.

I can understand them refusing people who look in their late teens/early twenties, but seriously... there is something very wrong when a 29 year old man gets refused a four-pack of 1664. :/

i assume you are just using the wrong words but you did not get refused, simply asked for identification. two different concepts there i'm afraid.

She asked me for ID, and when I told her I didn't have any she said "oh.. well I'm sorry then, I can't sell you alcohol". I (of course) pointed out the fact that I am more than a decade over the legal age requirement, but she persisted.

So no. It wasn't what I said.

Either get a provisional driving license a passport or some other form of accepted ID or shut up. It really isn't that hard.

Once again, not that easy if you don't have one!

See above. It isn't hard just has a cost value.

I carry my ID with me everywhere. If you don't have a driver's licence, just get a provisional or suck it up and take your passport with you when buying alcohol. Not hard.

No need to be an ass thanks.

And regardless... I wouldn't even think to carry my passport with me, and my wallet (complete with hypothetical drivers license) would have been at home, since I just grabbed my bank card and keys and popped around the corner to the co-op. There is no reason I should need to have taken ID with me.
