Age vs gaming

I'm 31.
All thats happened as ive got older is i've stopped buying any old crap just for a gaming fix.
My taste in games or my self control is substantially better now than what it used to be.

30 something and was a dedicated PC gamer. Now I have a Wii I'm back into consoles again. PC just gets used not the interjet now. Plus I can't be bothered to keep upgrading the PC.

26 here,

TBH I think I am growing out of gaming.

I started when I was 4 and have played ever since.

I'm not sure what it is, I think there are a lot of reasons:
Lifes priorities have changed I have a kid so he takes up a lot of the spare time I used to have for gaming,
The games don't engage me in the same way. There used to be a time where I would play a game to absolute death, I would literally spend every waking second thinking about it, and when I was at home I would be working to completion. Now gaming somewhat feels like a chore.
The online Aspect is starting to bore me a bit too. Back when Halo2 came out we had plenty of people online from these forums and we made other friends by association, over the years. I could log on at any time and I would have a great group of friends to play with.
When GRAW came out on the 360, the games were always over-subscribed, we all had a great laugh and despite not really thinking too highly of the game I enjoyed playing if because of the people. The same could be said about GoW.
Halo 3 is the game I currently play and tbh I don't feel the same way about it. I just find playing Halo 3 stressful it seems every game is full of whining moaning and arguments. The only time people enjoy themselves in Halo3 is in a Rocket Races game, which we cant have very often because we never get the numbers up.

I have taken several hiatuses from gaming over the last year or so. The first one was to complete my degree, during that hiatus I really missed gaming, but subsequent hiatuses which I have spent reading, or watching TV series I have not even been that bothered about gaming, I've not come home from work in months thinking "I cant wait to play this game"

My guess is that generally, people who became gamers have stayed gamers, therefore pushing that average age up year after year. If the average age of a gamer is 31, they probably started around the time of the C64/Speccy era.

Think you've hit it right on the head.
I'm 37 and have been involved in gaming since the ZX81(the one with the rubber keys )

Im 27 and started playin on my Spectrum ZX on games like paperboy and havent really looked back, have owned most consoles and spent a long time PC gaming too.

I'm 43 and I game via an Xbox 360 and PS3.
I'm also toying with the idea of a PSP.
Most of my mates who are into gaming are 40+ as well.
Been playing games since I built my first Sinclair ZX80.
Nice to see that there are plenty of us old farts here who are into gaming :D

16 here had a sega megadrive as my first console, play my xbox 360, wii and ps3 now (got them between me and my brothers) play the xbox about 10-20 hours a week the others maybe half an hour a week/month (if that).

GRAW for me was the highlight of my 360 gaming days so far. 12 overclockers playing a game against each other for fun and bragging rights. We never once played ranked and didnt care about rank of XP. The same with gears.

That hasn't happened since for me, no one is really interested in playing 6v6 non XP in COD.

Or even the lazy nights of talking pap playing Poker.

I've really gone off gaming myself in the last 3/4s of a year. Sometime I turn out out of habit or having anything I have wanted to play. I've sent back rentals without playing them and nothing interests me this year really til GOW2 that isn't an instrument based game.

I'll be 37 in a couple of weeks, so I'm officially 'pushing 40'... but glad to see there are quite a few others here in the same boat.

With two young daughters, I only have time now to play on a casual basis, but still enjoy gaming when I can. Offline multiplayer is what I enjoy most - it's sociable and a good way for me to bond with my teenage nephews.

This whole issue reminds me of the time they had a team of 20somethings versus pensioners on University Challenge.

The oldies knew all the answers, but they just couldn't get to their buzzers quick enough... :)
