I got mine from Wickes last year, 12000BTU, does the whole house fine. I got 30% off the price too on the day i bought it, worked out £175 in the end.

Would suggest going for a larger one then 9000 though if you want to do the whole house.

The reason the proper ones collect water as they also dehumidify the air while cooling it.

12,000 BTU will do a normal 12x12 room OK. I got an Airforce last year for my loft conversion it often gets over 30c on the summer.

Thanks for all the info, certainly sounds like I will go for one.
I have one of those terrible £40 ones at the moment, it actualy makes the room hotter....
My room is seriously hot, today it reached 28C and I think it was around 24C outside? God knows what it will be like later this weak, last year it reached 33C!!!

you can get a decent one for 200-300 pounds, i wouldn't wipe my ass with anything cheaper than that

its absoloutly unbearable in my room once my pc gets switched on it goes off after a few hours and i feel ill from the heat, i definetly think i need one of these units because im restricted using my pc because the room get's so hot even when i have the windows open etc and having a fan blowing on me makes me feel worse for some reason

i wouldnt really want to spend more that 50 quid as i cudnt bring my self to spending 200 on one, not that im tight i just dont really have the money any one have any suggestions the heat today and yesterday was ridiculous mind u it got me out for a few hours

We got one of those £160 B&Q jobs for the server room at school and that's got a fair few servers and this unit keeps it really cold. Never failed yet, and cheap

Watch the electricity bills rise boys and girls.

When I had mine on all summer with all the PC's, lamps, TV's the bill for that quarter was considerably higher than expected.

My room gets hotter during the night because of these fancy halogen lights I put in.

I have to shut the windows to because I hate insects but when I wake up in the morning with the windows open and fan on I'm FREEZING!

Its not too bad as it has an attachment for going out the window as well and just in case my idea of a standard size is wrong then lets say its just a bit bigger than a cd.
