Air conditioning units?!

Hi all,

I need an air conditioning unit because I honestly don't think I will survive through the summer with my bedroom this hot.
Are the portable unit's worth it?
I am looking at spending a max of around £400 as long as It's good.

Any advice?!

erm, if its just for one room, £100 ish should do it. for £400 you can buy one that will turn your house into an ice box  :D

I bought a new one - mainly because the one that comes with them is quite short - the onje i got is a fleix type so easly to stretch/bend etc.

Ducting hose stretches quite abit (depending on the size - the diamiter of it is the problem as most places do the sizes for tumble dryers but you can get adapter rings to fit the smaller size to it).

Ah right thanks, had a feeling you did have a different one by the photo, the one that comes with the AC is a bit short and too stiff tbh.

Please point me in the direction of a £100 unit. That homebase one is the cheapest I have seen.

for those who dont have a homebase store near them argos do the same ones just under the argos challenge name (they are identical units apart from the boxes etc)

That is the main reason why my room gets hot. It's a toss up between death by heat or death my moth. I plan to put some sort of fine netting over my window this year to allow decent air flow while blocking invading insects.

I'm doing the same, but it isn't the moths that are bothering me, It's the 3 inch hornets!..

I'll count myself lucky then! The ones that get me are the daddy long legs' if I was honest. Those things are pure evil.

Had one land on my hand the other day.... It was HUGE!

I think the 8000-10,000 btu ones use around 900w, so they are quite expensive to run although its not going to be on constantly unless you are trying to cool a whole floor.

Im pretty sure the argos/homebase and b&q ones are near identical they look very similar just different colours. I wouldnt expect them to last too long before they need binning because the gas leaked out.

I bought a 10,000btu b&q one for £100 ish last year, best to get one when summers finished ;)

A+ energy efficient appliance just means it only uses so many watts not that its more efficient.

Right, you can only order the one at Homebase online and it takes 7 days to deliver. I just phoned Homebase and they have their own one, which is exactly the same at the one above, same price and everything, but a different name and they have it at their store. I am going to pick it up later and see what It's like.
