Air conditioning units?!

Trouble is that my computer room always seems to be in a state of heatness, especially when at night the window has to be kept closed to keep all the flies & other nightlife creatures out, which means there is no place for the heat to escape to.

I still need one in here, because its a permanent heatwave in here, its never cold with all the heat that the machine pumps out, and with it being a year until I can get any new hardware, it would be cheapest to get an air con unit to keep it at a constant temperature.

Just not sure the best one to buy to be honest, as im sure some last longer than others, and some cool better as well, but with me being mr average in terms of air con, I wouldnt know the difference?
 
Digging up an old thread here.

I bought a Homebase 9K BTU last week for my loft bedroom, as it always gets way above 30 degrees during sunny weather.

Only problem I have with it so far is that the hose supplied is really short and right now I don't really have it in the ideal place I want it. At the weekend I looked around Homebase, B&Q, Wickes etc and couldn't find any hosing that was the same as it. The only thing I did find was aluminium tumble dryer hose which was expensive, not that long and a smaller diameter.

Does anyone know where to get some? What have you done with your own PAC?
 
I found some at my local Focus, a large retailer that sells home appliances also sell it, can't say though as they sell computer stuff too.


Mine is always plugged in and hooked up unless its raining hard, that's when i disassemble the hot air hose as the water tends to come through the hose and into the house. As it has a heater/dehumidify/air function its good all year round :)
 
anyone else noticed the prices gone through the roof?

i got mine for 140 last year (9000btu) but this year 9000btu units are close to 200 :eek:
 
Well still no luck finding any extra hose. :(

I've now tried Wickes, Homebase, B&Q, Focus and an Independent store and all off the large high-street electrical retailers that you find in retail parks. Nothing that comes close other than washing machine venting which is much thinner and a smaller diameter.

Our local B&Q warehouse has vent extension kits for portable aircon units, not sure whether they'd be right for your unit though.
 
Would these be cheaper to buy in the Winter? Surely the likes of homebase etc put the prices up slightly in the Summer time?


Would a 9kBTU be enough to cool a medium sized bed room? Or would it be better going for the 12k?
 
I wouldn't mind some feedback guys.

My room is actually small, its 2 meters by 3 meters i think :eek:

Anyway its the hottest room in the house, when my pc is on its normally close to 30.

Its 23.8 right now not too hot here, yesterday it was 27c and my pc wasn't on all day.

Last July when my GF was here my room was well over 33c, it was UNBARABLE. I was having nose bleeds, i just can not stand heat. We bought that magiccool spray or whatever it was called but it was usuless lol

With pc on its like a radiator heating up my already boiling room.

The cheapest on argos is £164 tho, for air con

Also we have elecy meter for our house, is this going to rape it? Any advice please :)

That's a pretty good price, certainly cheaper than B&Q. probably not overkill as you're better with it not struggling than with one that's not really big enough.

The room its in is about 10x18ft, it does its job superbly, you only need to stick it on for about 10 minutes every hour and it keeps the room nice and chilled.

The exhaust duct is a pain, its big and chunky and not very long so it needs to be near a window and the unit cant be flush with the wall.

Cant comment on electricity, we ditched about 4 fans after buying this that was on constantly, but as i say this only needs 10 minutes every hour or so.

Definatly recomend one anyway.

Think i'll purchase one, my rooms only around 4m x 6m
 
You call say its got a short pipe, how exactly short is it? In meters? Changing room around soon need to plan where i can put it :)
