Air Fryers

Did some spring rolls yesterday, came out perfect. Brushed some sesame seed oil on the outside but tbh, the ones i missed out turned out just as well.

Yeah you can do the fish and chips at the same time, put the fish on the top tray though so you can easily pick it up and give the chips a good shake around half way through. I would preheat and try 8 minutes + 8 minutes at something like 180 and see where that gets you. Maybe more if it is a particularly thick piece

I'm a little confused. I thought you could just take food from the freezer and bung it straight in, but the manual is saying that you have to soak frozen chicken nuggets, fish fingers and fish for 30mins before cooking. Is this right? Is this what you do?

I don't recall my Philips airfryer manual saying that - do you have the Tefal? - but I've certainly never done that, and simply throw them straight in... always come out fine!

So how smokey to these things get? They look pretty damn good but have an open space apartment so don't want the whole place smelling of smoke after.

we bought one last week.

It says to pretty much soak everything... although we have not socked anything apart from home made chips and everything has come out perfect.

You could or you can just not use any at all tbh if they are oven chips sicne they ahev their own oil.

Don't bother soaking them, the manual dunt kno nuffin. I only soak freshly cut chips from potatoes to get some of the rawness out of them but it probably does very little.

I don't even get my toastie maker out any more and just use the airfryer since it comes out nicer

Just been reading online about some people reporting it, must have sensitive noses or bad units then.

I chiefly want to use one for making wings, makes a good job of those?

I have to say I think the manual greatly exaggregates the cooking times.

Ive just done 4 bangers in it and it took 8 minutes. Philips say 15 mins. They would have been burnt to a cinder if I left them in that long.

Standard silly reviews. You have like a 'new fryer smell' with any new heating device that is unused has an odd smell when it heats up for the first time. A handful cooks gets rid of it completely. So they must be mistaking that smell for smoke, although it is quite different.

As for wings, great job. Itl do them quickly and easily, crisping the outside and keeping the insides tender.

You will build up a collection of pre-mixed dry rubs for your wings not after long!

Hmmm, can you cook anything healthy in it?

I know it sounds like healthy cooking and this thread has initially tempt me but reading the posts so far, it's all chips, chips, pizza, kebabs, bacon, chips, spuds, samosas, onion rings, chips.

Can you cook say...fish, or steaks (whilst it's still pink in the middle).

Yes. You can cook tons of healthy stuff in it.

Anything you can cook in an oven, BBQ and almost anything you can do in a fryer.

What do you consider healthy?

Much of what is mentioned in this thread is pre-fried or frozen with oil for quick cooking but you can just as easily do it from fresh with little or no oil.
