Airfix

What make is that kit mate, looks like its one of the newer ones, not the original tamiya or hasegawa ones, or did you do the panel lines and rivets yourself? Nice job if you did.:)

It's the Tamiya A6M2b 1/32 Kit totally out the box but the finish is really nice
on it.

Got it completed now and very pleased with the results given that it is all
brush painted.

/\/\/\ Very nice job done on there, I like that. I've virtually finished one of the old 1/24 airfix ME109E kit for a mate as a favour. I should be able to get a coupla pics of it posted up here :)

That's superb for brush work well done mate. You would have a field day with an airbrush mate you should seriously consider investing in one. I'm trying to sell my H&S one at the mo :D (due to possible upgrade).

Thanks for the comments.

I do like brushing but I might try another one before making the jump to an
airbrush.

Been looking in the stash and the 1/35 Trumpeter Hind Mi24 looks like the next one to be build as I have never built a chopper before.

Why the upgrade on the Airbrush ?

Anyone have any idea how good the "Dragon" 1/32 P51D mustang is? been reading this thread again and I've got an urge to a 1/32 scale jobbie meself and I've always liked the P51D. One thing I did notice is the amount of rivet lines on the P51D wings, they'd have to be filled due to them having a "laminar flow" wing which needed/s a smooth surface, would mean a bit of fillling and sanding, not difficult though.

Just found a coupla more pics:

I notice that Phil on the pro modellers site has a video build of a heli - looks good indeed. *possible* upgrade. To be honest I'm in two minds about it, but if it sells then I will get myself either one of two upgraded units. They both offer a couple of little significant extras in my opinion. But it's only if I get a good price for my Evo. They are really superb fun. It's just the cleaning and blockages that can be a little tricky to overcome.

Apparently the Dragon kit is 'terrible' lol.. Not my words, but there is a 'best of' on the pro modellers forum that contains some interesting info. The most accurate is the Hasegawa, but a lot of people like the Trumpeter also. I love the idea of a P-51 myself, especially in Alclad II aluminium airframe :D That stuff is amazing. I also remember building a 1:32 P-47 many years ago and that was my very first foray into airbrushing. But I never finished it, and it ended up broken.

Just had a read through the Trumpeter instructions for the Hind:eek:

Think I have been a bit spoiled with only completing Tamiya kits so far so this
one should be a bit of a challange as the instructions are a bit vauge.

Generally speaking, whats peoples opinion on the "Trumpeter" range of kits? Theres a huge range, far bigger than when I was building anything a while ago. really getting the urge again to do a number on summat:)

I have 2 in the stash

1/35 Hind Mi24v.

1/32 SU27 UB Flanker.

Both were bought only because at that scale Trumpeter is the only option.

Jumping from a Tamiya with detailed instructions and full painting codes to a
trumpeter instructions that just gives you the basics then hints at the
colour (Bright Bluish green etc) is a bit of a shock.

Looking at the kit the panels / rivets are all marked on the fuselage and the
moulding seems fine but It does not appear to have the same quality as the
Tamiya.

I know they had to correct a fair bit from the SU27 to the 27UB release as
there were major issues surrounding the cone and intakes.

Think you need to check some reviews out before buying as they do seem
to be a bit hit or miss.

Yeah I think it's very subjective at the end of the day - I know that dude on the pro modellers site has just said that new Tamiya 1:32 Spitfire was the best 1:32 scale model he has ever built in terms of quality and detailing and he's built and painted quite a few! Maybe you need to consider the price as well - after all, generally speaking, the more expensive the model the more parts will be included. You might get etched detailing/masks/better referencing etc. It all helps. I don't think I could justify spending £100 on a single model at the moment however!

I believe it was a trumpeter P51D I was looking at a while back at Hannants near Hendon air museum. The external detailing was nice, albeit a bit on the heavy side and would tend to be give an impression of "overdone" if washed. Still, the overall shape and proportions looked about right to me and theres a few detailing sets I could think of that would augment the model nicely (providing they're still available that is).
Wrt a bare aluminium finsh, whats the flavour of the month nowadays? It used to SNJ ally finish paint when I was last building aircraft.

Howdy,

Just bumping this thread to get a bit of assistance please. I'm trying to find a model helicopter for my brother, maybe an Apache or Tiger, and I was wondering if anybody would have recommendations as to good sets?

Thanks in advance.

I enjoyed building a black hawk (think it was airfix) and painting it desert colours
