Been at my ship for a few hours today. Fitting the forecastle and some more metalwork.

I know this is an airfix thread but thought I'd ask anyway..

Has anyone made a Kotobukiya Metal Gear Solid Rex model kit? I find myself housebound after a stay in hospital and feel like trying to make something.

Finally got around to grabbing myself a kit and getting stuck in like old times. It’s taken months for me to find the time but I’m glad I did as I really enjoyed the process. Very nostalgic, even called on the old man to help me with the tracks (still the hardest thing ever!) so I got to share it with him.
I decided on a KV-2 which is a very unique looking tank and quite different from more mainstream kits I’ve done in the past for example: Tiger I/II, Sherman, T34. I decided to do this tank as it’s one of my favorites to play on World of Tanks and is one of the most outlandish Soviet looking things I’ve ever laid eyes upon (followed closely by the ISU-152).
The painting was just as hard of a challenge as I remember it to be so I decided to keep it simple and subtle. I’d love to go all out and weather it to look like it’s been through hell and back on the eastern front but I’m afraid I just don’t have the ability to. I suppose I’m leaving it as a really good base which could be revisited in the future if I’m ever feeling artistic.
I’m really pleased with how it came out and it’ll be proudly on display in my room.

I do love a good tank!

Got one from years ago still, but of weathering is easy, airbrush for tones on paintwork and drybrushed silver for exposed paint, also love putting them on small dioramas for display, also means they get broken less!

e: picture is a bit big!

Never done a diorama, might have to check it out and think of some ideas. :)
Can't praise the Trumpeter kit enough. Nicely detailed and went together a treat in the end. I've only done Tamiya kits before and I can't remember them being much better than this.

Who's idea was it to rebuild the wheels on the Airfix 1:12 Blower Bentley with 28guage beading wire to make realistic spokes? Only 1 wheel done so far!

Kind of lacking motivation for continuing with this build at the moment.
I spied a bargain in a localish model shop the other day, which I couldn't refuse for a fun build - the Airfix 1:12 Shaun the Sheep "Shaun, Timme, Bitzer and Tractor" kit!

Obligatory box and sprue shot!

RFI - 1/35 Trumpeter Russian BTR-80A APC

I'm doing my first armour build with the 1/35 Trumpeter Russian BTR-80A APC.

Background:

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The BTR-80 (Russian: бронетранспортер, BTR stands for bronyetransportyer, literally meaning "armoured transporter") is an 8x8 wheeled amphibious armoured personnel carrier (APC) designed in the USSR. Adopted in 1986 and replaced the previous versions, BTR-60 and BTR-70 in the Soviet Army. It was first deployed during Soviet War in Afghanistan .

BTR-80A (GAZ-59034) - IFV with 30 mm gun 2A72 and 300 rounds as primary weapon. The turret is called BPPU and is equipped with sights 1PZ-9 (day) and TPN-3 or TPN-3-42 "Kristall" (night). In production and service since 1994.

The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was a NATO-led security mission in Afghanistan, established by the United Nations Security Council in December 2001 by Resolution 1386 as envisaged by the Bonn Agreement.[3][4] Its main purpose was to train the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and assist Afghanistan in rebuilding key government institutions, but is also engaged in the 2001–present war with insurgent groups.

Hungary - The Hungarian infantry unit was situated in Kabul, however, on 1 October 2006, Hungary requisitioned its forces and took over responsibility from the Dutch for the Provincial Reconstruction Team in the town of Pul‑e Khumri, the capital of Baghlan province. Since 1 October 2008, one of the tasks of the Hungarians is to provide security at Kabul International Airport. In 2008 Hungarian special forces deployed to South Afghanistan to special reconnaissance and patrol operations. In 2010 Budapest adds 200 soldiers to the 340 troops it already has in Afghanistan working in reconstruction and training. Six Hungarian soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan.
