Airfix

I'm about to buy myself an airbrush and compressor... but what other essential bits will I need that I've not considered?

You will need to give good consideration to a respirator to protect your lungs and is possible an extractor as well.

What paints and thinners you going to use?

Stumbled on this thread, not a model builder myself (I used to as a boy) but I like military history etc and I have to say some of the models especially those with weathering are stunning in particular Tiger, Leopard, WW1 tank and the Spit I saw.

That's only for the last few pages!

Great stuff guys.

Guys, need some pointers.

I usually use Hiroboy for paints etc.
But I am in the process of using some paints (Zero) which I then use a Hiroboy 2 Pack Hardener (clear coat) to finish them of and bring the shine out etc. Sure you know what I mean.

Anyhow, the hardener bottle has gone hard to I need a replacement and Hiroboy are shut till end of July for summer holidays.

Any other websites in the UK to source something suitable from.
I have plenty of thinners and clear-coat, just the Hardener I am after.

Thank you

The rogues gallery Kylo Ren will be the next addition :)

Hi Roma

Where did you get these from?

Thanks

Airbrush cleaner.

I'd also recommend acrylics over anything else. Make sure you get an acrylic thinners as well as you'll need to thin the paint for spraying.

So yeah - hi. I've mentioned earlier I'm doing the Deag Falcon and need an airbrush/airbrush kit, but a quick question. I have a Clarke Ranger 35 air compressor:

8 Bar
7 cu ft/min
1.5hp
24 ltr rec

I know it's not exactly a quiet piece of kit, but would this be any good to use as the compressed air side of things to connect an air brush to, or would I be better off getting something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/9cc-Gravi...826347?hash=item58deb9952b:g:ibcAAOSwOVpXfVCv

If my compressor would be suitable, what stuff would I need. I assume a dual action air brush, but hoses/filters etc?

Many thanks :)

How much do you want to spend? I wouldn't use that compressor. I would get one more suited to the task.

Yeah I thought my compressor might be a bit overkill/loud lol. I'm not looking to spend a huge amount so a totally max budget of £100 but the cheaper the better as I suspect after this build I'll never use it again - that's kinda why I thought I could use my existing one to save some ££££s :D

I'm afraid I'm out. I refuse to recommend any airbrush/compressor kit under £100 as they always turn out to be crap and frustrating, and in extreme cases are capable of ruining your model by coughing and spluttering paint anywhere.

Stick with an Iwata brush mate. The best by a country mile.

Okie dokes, ta for the reply though. I'd really struggle to justify spending more as after this build I suspect it will just get put in a cupboard and forgotten about, as I can never bring myself to sell stuff on, because "I might need that one day"!! ^_^

Hi,

I have had a similar compressor to the one in the ebay link but got one with a tank.

I have found it very reliable and quiet and has been faultless since early 2014.

The airbrushes that come with them are very cheap and can hold up the learning process as they can break, wear out or just not work properly.

For an airbrush, you need to set a sensible budget. I have my personal preferences, but let us know how much money you have to spend.

It's one of those things that's an investment in the hobby though.

This is just my opinion.....

I like the German designed and made harder and steenbeck airbrushes.

Easy to use and clean as they are designed to be used tool less for disassembly and reassembly.

This is a good starter kit and the most of the parts are interchangeable with the evolution and infinity.

But only consider this if you intend to carry on with the modelling hobby.

like I said, it's an investment in a the hobby.

1/24 Wave Tachikoma from Ghost In the Shell SAC 2nd GIG.

Background: A Tachikoma (タチコマ?) is a fictional artificial intelligence, walker/roller in the Ghost in the Shell universe; appearing in the manga, created by Masamune Shirow, and the Stand Alone Complex sub-universe. Nine of them are assigned to Section 9's use originally. They are spider-like, multi-legged combat vehicles, equipped with artificial intelligence. The spider design appears in other places in Shirow's work, like the Appleseed manga. Shirow is noted to keep numerous spiders as pets.

Production I.G was unable to use the Fuchikoma design in the 2002 Stand Alone Complex anime TV series due to copyright conflicts. However, Masamune Shirow was able to design a legally safe equivalent to the spider-tanks for the new show, which he named the "Tachikoma". There are distinct differences in the design, most significantly in the 'eyes' and the vertically oriented abdomen. Still, the tanks are easily recognizable as descendants of the original Fuchikoma. Their AI 'personalities' and roles in the new series are indistinguishable from their predecessors in the manga.
