There is some rather nice work being showcased in here…. I respect anyone attempting to build a scale model, as it takes some real effort to make them look good…

I was an avid builder until a few years ago. I do hope one day to step back into the hobby, but for now, I’ll show some of my past works….

Maybe one day I'll add some new models to my workbench and create something new, but for now time and other aspects of life means for the time being i'll have to just drool over the works of others and keep an eye on the hobby so as I don't loose touch with it...

Keep it up everyone. Its a great hobby - if a bit costly in time and money.. lol

And my website if anyone would like to view some more of my past works.

you can get klear very easily on ebay if you can't find in shops.

Brush klear on with a wide flat brush, if there's little bubbles just blow on them and they pop.

I've found the best brushes for brush painting models are Pro Arte - Polar White flat brushes, £2-£10 each, can get a pretty good finish with them

wow /\ they are impressive - what scale are they and can you name them all?

most are 1:350 scale iv got hood prince of wales repulse bismark musashi iowa a type 7 sub that looks tiny fletcher class destroyer. theres some 1:600 airfix kits bismark hood fearless (my father in law served on fearless) ark royal (grandad was on her when she was sunk in the war by the 1:350 scale type 7 iv got) nelson. iv also got some 1:700 kits repulse king george 5 shinano hood and iowa
theyr all in various stages of build lol

The 1/350 Repulse is a new kit isn't it, what do you think of it? I've done the 1/700 Tamiya one and really enjoyed it

yeah its new iv got 1/350 and 1/700 its virtually identical just scaled up theres some nice pe with it too.
iv also got 1/350 graf spee and prince eugen theyr both new kits too
the trumpy and tamiya kits are far far better than the airfix 1/600s but i think the airfix kits date back to the 70s or even 60s

Well I've been playing and I haven't quite finished but it's not looking too bad for a first attempt! I had some problems with the decals unfortunately but weathering will help me out there.

What is really bizarre too, I met one of actual pilots from that squadron a few years back.

Right I purchased a 67' Corvertte convertible from my local craft place, bought the revell glue, tweezers, nail files, brushes etc etc.

Got it home and realised it needed 15 different coloured paints

I just want a kit that includes the paints, decals and car... looking at these for example..

Would they include everything I need?

No mate, no kit will generally come with paint. Apart from Airfix, I think they are the only company doing it these days, but then it's usually only 'starter' kits although I was in hobbycraft yesterday and was quite surprised to see some huge 1:24 kits with about 20 paints all for under £40 which I thought too good to be true. Either way unless you go Airfix I think you'll need to invest in paint.

:( and theres no way of telling what paints you need untill you get the kit and read the instructions? I was a little disheartened when I found out my revell corvette required 15 paints.

Wheres the best place to get the acrylics from?

Sometimes they are listed on the side of the box mate. I know mine were for the Tamiya and Airfix kits. But yes there is some expenditure required in order to complete a decent kit. I've spent the best part of £300 now on everything including the airbrush. :(

I get my Tamiya acrylics from two places :- Hannants and https://www.modelsforsale.com/

that's a lovely looking spit phil, really making me envious this thread, might have to pop in to modelzone tomorrow :p

quick Q; do you use a decal softener? they look like they've gone on nice and smooth which is a problem i ALWAYS had with decals when i was a kid, so much so that i preferred to freehand.

Thanks very much! It's come out quite well to be honest. I was told to use Klear to soften the decals and it works like a charm. You soak them as normal, then dip them in the Klear for a few seconds each side, and then place. It does make them much more difficult to align however. But they look like they've been painted on which is amazing really.
