So it's five minutes before they go into standby, not the two hours that everyone has been commenting on.

Yeah I’d read that people had left them lying around and the battery hadn’t depleted notably. Seems like a case of poor communication more than anything and also one less mark against them... although the case is still unforgivable!

Where did the 2 hour thing even come from? I heard a lot of reviewers saying, but if Apple themselves are saying its 5 minutes then it just makes these reviewers look stupid.

At least thats a positive though, 5 mins is fine

I don't know but I think every review I've seen and read has mentioned it.

Jony Ive would never have allowed it. Steve Jobs would never have allowed it, I just don't understand how it's come into existence and how anyone at Apple thinks it's a good thing.

That's a good thing - they're looking overall like a very, very good device. I'd still prefer a on/off switch but if battery is anything like the rest of the product line no problems there. Just the price/iBra to sort haha.

Fun little video of some of the Abyss guys (who make very, very, very expensive high-end headphones) looking at the design/engineering of the APM.

It a strange way, I enjoyed watching that. It was interesting listening to people who know exactly what they are talking about without being dicks about it being an apple product like most.

From all the reviews I have seen basically can be summed up as:

The build is basically the best you can get
Very comfortable
Great Ear cups
Sound is about as good as it gets on wireless
The ANC is about as good as it gets
The noise isolation is great
a small amount of leakage at high volumes
Integration with apples ecosystem is of course unmatched.
The case is utterly ridiculous
The price is high but it’s a ‘halo’ Apple product so what do you expect?

At the end of the day, Apple has never been about value and the brand can pretty much demand a premium on anything and people will pay it. What makes me laugh though is that despite all the flack Apple gets for being expensive they are not even close to being the worse offenders like almost the fashion industry.

Would I ever buy a pair? Hell no, I can afford them but I just have better things to drop that kind of money on, especially how this kind of tech is so consumable. However, if people want to buy them that’s also fine and I’m sure owners well really like them. I’m also sure they’ll sell very well.

I really had a hard time justifying to myself my Sony XM2s when they were EOL and being given away at a steal of a price. Not a chance on these.

Am surprised at how cheap these are when this same company charge almost £1000 for just a monitor stand
Or £700 for a set of wheels for a mac case :D

Neither of which are consumer products and both of which are priced that way to recoup the R&D/manufacturing costs, because they have such a low volume of sales. Professional environments tend to already have existing VESA mounts and so won't order a stand they don't need, so you end having to provide something just in case people need it but that you're not expecting to actually sell much of.

It's the same for all professional equipment - look at how expensive the accessories are for the RED cameras they shoot movies with: if you're only expecting to sell 100's of units vs 1000's or 10's of 1000's then something like a battery pack ends up going for $550 rather than $55.

Red, now there is a company that knows how to overcharge their customers, its got nothing to do with R&D. $1500 for a 480gb mini mag which is just a normal consumer grade SSD in a fancy housing. The only thing special about the actual $100 SSD inside is its red device ID so you can't use 3rd party media without spoofing it.

I wouldn't trust half these reviewers. Him included.
Mr Brownlee is far from a trusted reviewer nowadays. He will make some negative comments but always minor and always follows up with why they’re insignificant and usually says apple will fix them. I think in the past he’s made suggestions for the direction apple should go and they have done what he said and now he thinks he’s listened to which is not good for impartiality.

The headphone manufacturer video had one person picking faults and the other two seemed keen to downplay things, and they hardly spoke about sound quality at all.

If you want some headphones that look like apple made them I’d wait 3 months and there will be some copies for 1/5th of the price. If you want audio quality you could spend nearly half the price and just get some Sony’s. If you want the look and sound quality in the rough ballpark of the Sony then you’ll have to drop £550.

That would be because they're a company that makes extremely niche, proper audiophile headphones. They're also not reviewers, it clearly states that - it was more around build quality and design and I found that one of the more interesting videos on the AirPods Max. People would have done nothing but complain if they'd been comparing £550 headphones to £3k headphones.

Indeed on the reviewer side. I do find those with better reviews do not get 'early release' products from Apple. They have to go buy them. I suppose like HW etc

The problem with reviews of Apple audio kit is they focus more on the interconnectivity than the sound quality.

I use android phones and windows PC's, I just want to know if the sound/ANC is worth it compared to the competition.

Not sure I agree there, if you actually look at the stuff he reviews, for the most part they are genuinely good products. The issue is that most mainstream stuff released these days from established manufacturers is a genuinely good product.

Most genuinely good products have a few minor negatives or flaws which are generally not that important or don’t materially detract from the rest of the experience. Genuinely good products deserve a positive review. The bad products he does a video on get a negative.

Back to the AirPods max, there is only 1 genuine issue with the actual product. That is the utterly rubbish case which he called out multiple times in the video. I believe he actually used the word ‘stupid’ to describe it. He also clearly called out the price (which clearly isn’t an issue for some people given they are sold out). I believe he also mentioned their competitors.

What in his review did you think was an issue?

Even iJustine was was negative on the case (for her...) and she is in love with anything Apple makes and hyper positive about pretty much anything she makes an unboxing on. Let’s be clear, her videos are not reviews for the most part. Generally they don’t tend to have any critique and just tend to run through of the product and it’s features a.k.a marketing points.

They’re not reviewers but the guy on the right was extremely good imo and better than any other review I have seen.

Why would people complain if they compared the audio to high quality headphones? And why would it be a problem if people complain anyway? Is a review supposed to make people happy instead of stating facts/opinions? I am sure they could have contextualised their opinion and said for a pair of £550 headphones they are in the ball park sound wise. All we got was a fairly thin opinion on sound and a comparison to the Sony’s which are nearly half the price.
