Not that any body cares but i’ve cancelled my pre-order. Brother talked me out of it when I told him, he basically laughed (like you lot) and said it’s basically the exact same as the 4 year old ones but with the same price tag. Should have knocked it down to £299

I’m just going to wait for the Max 2, i’ve waited about a year anyway since I decided to get a pair of these but now i’m just going to refuse to buy this pair new pair! Hopefully others do the same and possibly change/mix up apples tactic. Maybe the pros 2 with the wireless case which was a small upgrade/date if you will has sold perfectly well and they’ve thought it would be the same with these?

I am looking into getting some AirPods Max primarily to use with an iPod Classic. I know with the lightning version, you have to use this specific cable to connect the AirPods to a 3.5mm jack device. Will this also apply to the USB-C version in the sense I will have to wait for Apple to release a specific USB-C to 3.5mm cable to work with the AirPods Max? Or will a USB-C cable such as this one work out of the box?

This is what you want I think:

I’ve been rocking the Bose QC35ii because they’re the best that they have made, beyond that of even the 45. (Opinion of course)

I’ve got the MAX over ears and I’ve had a look at when they were last on “find my” and can see I haven’t used them for nearly 4 months as the battery is dead. That speaks volumes really. I wonder if they even still work? They weren’t the most reliable over head cans to begin with…

No more trinkets for me, mortgage over payments and days out on the bike with a coffee at the end. That’s how I’m going to spend my hard earned.

Do you know the difference between such an adapter and the Belkin cable I linked too? Is there any difference?

I would go for the Apple one. USB to analogue cables contain a DAC, so getting a good one is actually important for audio quality. Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe this is still the case. I have the lightning to 3.5mm adapter and the DAC is actually alright. If the USB-C version is the same I recommend it.

EDIT: Ignore that, you’re going from 3.5mm to USB-C, right? I’m not sure if that works.

Do you use the lightning to 3.5mm adapter with the AirPods Max? I have read reports the adapter doesn’t work with the AirPods Max and you have to specifically get the Apple lightning to 3.5mm cable for it to work.

I also had this problem. Got really frustrating for me. I used the Apple lightning adapter in conjunction with a Bose Aux cable and no sound. I tried different other (working) aux cables and none worked with the Max.

My Solution:

I had to purchase the 35$ cable from Apple (Apple Lightning to 3.5mm Audio Cable) and that is the ONLY cable that works.

Frustrating due to the fact, that these 550$ headphones do not have an aux output and the overpriced 10$ adapter to aux will also not work in conjunction with a different aux cable.

YOU HAVE TO BUY THE NOT INCLUDED AND DEFINITELY OVERPRICED 35$ APPLE CABLE, TO HAVE WIRED SOUND WITH YOUR OVERPRICED AIRPODS MAX.

Thanks Apple

- AirPods Max Wired connection does not work

The following post seems to explain why.

It is important to know what is required of the cable and why others don't work. The Max's require a cable with an Analog to Digital Converter (ADC). Also it must convert the analog signal to AAC for the AirPods.

Cables that come with the iPhone (or 3ed party) are just the opposite and have a Digital to Analog Converter (DAC).

This built in electronics are actually a large part of the high price. Also any use use of a cable thinking they are bypassing the DAC to pass a hi res signal to the Max's is false. The only technical advantage is lower latency and less chance of dropouts than using BT.

- AirPods Max with third party Lightning - 3.5mm cable?

I am just wondering whether USB-C cables and / or adapters have all the necessary hardware (due to the USB-C specifications) or I will have to wait for Apple to release a USB-C to 3.5mm AirPods Max compatible cable?

You'll turn into @LiE if you're not careful, the pair I bought off you are still going strong :)

I will never reach the heights of LiE. :(:p Awesome, I am pleased you haven’t had any issues with them.

Just a little bit of further information regarding my previous query.

Looking at some of the forum posts on MacRumors, it appears the USB-C to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter doesn’t work.

MacRumors said:
This DAC offers excellent value for money and is compatible with the original Max or any analog headphone. There are numerous other options available. But then you need a unique 3.5mm to Lightning connector, which is Apple’s exclusive standard. Please refer to the attached image for a comparison between the Blue Max v.1 and the White Max v.2.
Interestingly, someone mentioned a long time ago that this DAC is also an ADC, but it does not appear to be compatible with my new White Max v.2.
The Apple Helpdesk representative was not informed about the latest version.

- Brand new AirPod max

The reason why it’s working on the AirPods Max with lightning is because they are using the Lightning to 3.5mm Audio Cable. The USB-C to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter doesn’t appear to be doing anything other than providing the right ports.

Started having some issues with my OG AirPods Max on my MacBook today. Don't think it's the headphones as works fine on my phone, they don't disconnect or anything like that, but the sound cuts out for x amount of seconds, then get the doctor robotico sound and then it works for a few seconds. I've reset them to factory default, rebooted the MacBook etc, going to leave them charging overnight and see if that fixes is. Hopefully not dying as I don't fancy getting new.

Edit: Interesting, not only my APM my normal AirPods are doing it too - definitely the MacBook.

Have you updated to Sequoia?

I’m noticing all sorts of Bluetooth issues with my headphones since updating my Mac (and iOS18 for that matter).

I found the issue, it took me a while, but I thought to myself what have I changed, I'd started using my MX Master 3S again today, so I turned it off and it all kicked back to normal. Turned it back on, issues. Tried another Logitech mouse via bluetooth (M650) and works perfectly, so not sure what the difference between the two are in terms of bluetooth. I'll just use the M650 for now.
