Akasa 62 Eclipse

My Akasa 62 case came yesterday and it looks beautiful. It's massive and I'm impressed. I bought a couple of 120mm ambers to go with it as well. I'm going to do a refit at the weekend when I have some time off.

Can anyone recommend a good method of getting rid of dust/fluff on components? I know some suggest cans of compressed air but I don't know where to get these from.

You bought an akasa in the end then snake? Bang on ain't they?
Nice choice guys, it looks better in the flesh than in pictures doesn't it?. It took me over a month to decide on a case and when i opened the huge box i was glad i went with the eclipse. Got any pics of your rigs then?.

Took me ages to decide too! Defo looks better in the flesh which is more than I can say for the Icy box I bought recently. I haven't transferred my bits yet, so I'm looking forward to that job at the weekend...

I bought 2 120mm Ambers to go with mine. Yes, it only has 2 fan slots. You don't have to fit ambers though.

I thought its a must as when you buy the case from here it does not come supplied with any fans? and Ambers seem to be the best ones to buy from what I been reading on these forums anyway.

Ambers are a bargain for the noise/cfm ratio at the price they are.

There are better for airflow, and better for noise, but for the money the offer the best compromise between price/performance/noise.

I use them in my main rig, they are a cheap and cheerful way of getting low noise :)

I used to buy ambers but I am about to buy some Akasa AK-174BK-S instead due to the price as you can almost buy three of these for the price of one amber, theyre 120mm 17.5dB and 38.4cfm, so you lose out on flow a little and life expectancy only 30,000 hours (I say only but they should still last 3 and a half years if on 24/7) but the price is worth it for me.

Remember that the stats quoted for every fan will be miles off, the only way to judge them is to try them out, as manufacturers stats have never been too hot ;)

Thermaltakes 80mm 110cfm 18db fan for instance, had a very short life.

(Or stats to that effect)

XP 120 will fit the Akasa 62 just fine...have had the setup running in mine with a SilenX 38mmx120mm fan. I also run SilenX case fans which also have a nice metallic finish which compliments the black/silver interior of the case. I am also running an S12 psu in mine and I have to say it's dead quiet with the G=power pro running at 7v and my GFX cards at 5v on Zalman GPU coolers.

The case is a dream to work on and the design allows you to hide cathodes/cables out of sight....pm me for pictures if you want bud.

I never hear much mention of nexus fans on these forums. Personally I prefer these to the Ambers which to my ears emit a buzzing noise when undervolted, and on 12v, you can definitely hear motor noise. The nexus (at least the 120mm versions I have) are smoother sounding at all voltages, and you just hear air, despite their 22db rating. I think the Acousifan Dusproof jobs are a close 2nd. As for SilentX. I hate them, as do a lot of low noise enthusiasts. They almost never produce the db levels and cfm's advertised, and a while back got a lot of bad press pimping their products on forums.

Just back up and running after a refit in the Akasa 62. I really thought the xp120 wasn't going to work in this case as well as I assembled it on the mobo with the tray outside of the case. When I tried to slide it in, it caught at the top end. In the end I had to install it with the tray inside, which was tricky, but possible! I think the problem lies with my relatively old motherboard (which has the cpu socket quite near the top). There is some overhang over the top edge of the mobo with this board and the xp120. As it stands, there is maybe 5-7mm clearance between the cpu fan and the psu fan. I'm not sure whether this is adequate or not, but it works!

I really like the case, and it's a dream to work with and very well designed. The placement of the holes in the mobo tray mean you can easily route cables to make the insides nice and neat as I'm sure many of you know.

I've got a YS-TECH FD1238 120mm Fan - 4 Pin (FG-004-YS) fitted onto the cooler, and it's a bit noiser than I anticipated! This has a four pin molex connector, so I fitted a 3-4pin adaptor to it and attached the 3pin connector to the 3pin cpu fan header on the mobo. Although power came on when I booted, the cpu fan didn't spin and my pc just powered off after a few seconds. This had me scratching my head as I thought the 3pin mobo fan header would power the fan. Eventually, I figured the fan needed power from the PSU so I attached a molex connector to it and voila! Mobo monitor is not reading my cpu fan speed though. Any ideas?

I still have to fit my 120mm (Akasa Amber) case fans though, as I had trouble screwing in the screws with an ordinary screwdriver! I also have a super flower fan master to fit, so I'm hoping I can quiet down the cpu fan when this is installed.

Cheers for all your help.

The fan wont support the reading as it is 4 pin, so wont have the speed monitoring cable connected.

Just volt mod the fan to lower its noise; guide in the sticky under V :)
