AKG K7XX - Massdrop

I remember that you were interested in them, but no it was someone else who nabbed them in the end... Less than a minute after I posted the thread, and at asking price if I recall correctly. :D

They were great but I couldn't be torn away from the warm laid back sound of my Fidelio's.

Well i have fidelios too :)

to be honest I think i still want the 400i's but I got offered me a super cheap 295 x 2 so I bought it. which meant i've had to delay buying the new headphones.

This month i have my eye on a pair of reveal 402's

what headphones you got now?

I'm sure you have my old fidelios and tbh I regret selling them I may buy a X2 when it drops below £175.

I'm tempted by these, but sounds like I'd be better off buying the AKG K712 Pro's instead and with less hassle of importing them as well.

What's the major difference between the 2?

Probably me :-D, love them :-D; was seriously considering the K712 but these scratched my itch.

I'm reading too much about Audeze LCD-2 (non faz) ....it might empty my wallet.

I think AKG should bring these out to the public now. They are the smoothest sounding and also warmest. Them and the Q701 make great alternatives.

The K712 is fantastic but the upper mids are a problem for many. The K7XX is more refined tham the 712 IMO.

The K7XX doesn't have a big soundstage but in return you get warmth and smoothness.

They would appear to be closer to my HD650s than modded K702s so is there any point in getting them if I already have a good sounding pair of Senns?

If you want a warm sound but with a little more bite on top and a bit more sub bass then yeah. The HD650 has better mids and a more relaxing treble. The K7XX has good mids and is quite close to the HD650 in mids but isn't as luscious.

I think owning both isn't a bad idea.

I still have them yes

I like them I think i'll keep them forever as I'm kind of fond of them.

I am in the market for a new pair but can't decide really need to go to a meet and listen to some examples.

The house hold income has near tripled this month and for the foreseeable future so i will get round to it but the house needs upgrades before my ears.

Someone mentioned an alternative cable that was better build at the ends than the USA one I ordered and I said I'd check it out if there were any issues with mine.

Well it happened...

The new cable is this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310798134910?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

And it's less bendy than the old one though the ends are tougher all round and solid. The bigger jack adapter screws in which might better for some folks I guess. Shipping came next day, I thought it shipped from the USA but seems it was UK based!

gdodamit these are back on . they have a freight forwarding service for 25 $, is that 25 $ into the country or to a company to send them to you to charge you more plus customs.

Really need a new pair, but cannot justify not knowing the exact cost. wish they would just bring them for sale in the UK!

That would not include customs __if__ you get charged by them. It's 50/50 really. Many didn't pay a penny, others did..

A headphone well worth heaving all the same though. I haven't had the itch to explore an upgrade, even in the future aspect, yet.

My K7XX have failed today. the right earcup is faulty. Wiggle it and sound comes out, otherwise it doesn't work. Looks like a dodgy microcable going into the cup itself.

RMA request logged with Massdrop...

The big problem with the AKG's from Massdrop are they are all built in PRC. I had some Q701's from there and when I returned then to the UK repair centre it was mentioned that they not being built in Austria and the QA was much lower as 'we have had a lot of these in'.

Oh can I send them into the UK centre then? I thought I'd have to ship them away

No, they refused them due to being purchased in the USA and the warranty does not cover Europe. Bit annoying as I spent ages persuading Harman to provide me with an RMA.

They did quote me £50 to replace the driver but as they are supposedly matched, I didn't want to go down that route.
