***AKG Q701 Official Owners Thread***

Those that wanted to know if the "gel" earpads were the genuine ones from the Annies can rest easy:

Got Ravens today and jesus the separation is insane. Pretty detailed too. Listened to a song that I am extremely familiar with and it's just airy, idk how to describe it I guess people who have these will know what I mean. Not finding the bass lacking either tbh.

Pretty Lights - A Color Map of The Sun.

Play that on Spotify, perfect album to get a mighty dose of bass, detail and separation through the Q701s :)

Well suffice to say I like these a lot and now I'm not sure whether I'll pick up my 650s or these, and I don't have a problem with the head band either it's fine.

will the bass mod affect the soundstage?

also does anyone know if a splitter exists?

What I'd like to do is use my Asus STX output (optical or analogue) and connect it into a splitter so I can use a few of my cans. I hate having to unplug it from the back everytime I want to change headphones.

A splitter will degrade the output power/quality. Swap headphones directly at the jack, not split them and hothead with them!

Bass mod makes no difference to soundstage to my ears and many others.

Sure people said it doesn't affect the sound stage at all.

I'm seriously tempted to order some K712 pro, every time I go to press buy I keep thinking can they really be £100 better than these X1's, I do like bass and I feel if they are lacking I won't like em :(

Different signature, you choose what appeals most to your senses

I still think the X1 are superb headphones and are a jack of all trades - Hard to beat for the price they can be found for but with phones like the Q701 that went for £95, and once modded sound pretty much just as good as K712 Pro...

For me the soundstage, detail in mids and highs and the modding capabilities weighed in favour of the Q701 vs X1. I found myself grinning a lot at the way the bass played madness with detail and punch but the Q701s make me grin wider in more areas.

Do you have any recommendations for a 3.5 mm extension lead so that I won't have to reach behind my PC to unplug my headphones?

oh bugger I wanted to take the lazy route to test different headphones :p

anyway as there (hopefully) will be another massdrop as the interest number is 441 I wanted to know how these compare to the ath ad900x just for gaming.

edit - and another set with the bass mod has just sold on mm. I keep missing out.

I don't get how people are saying these are bass light.

The bass compared to my HD650s is ever so marginally less. If the HD650s were 100% these are 90% at most. And I don't think the HD650s are regarded as bass light?

I listened to some bassy tunes like "xx - fantasy" and that rumbles along and some hip hop and it's all there. The main difference I can tell from the sennheisers is the vocals sit back a lot more. They're way more up in your face on the senns, listening to the Cranberries it's really noticeable. But the really raspy guitar they use is a lot more noticeable and more separated on the Q701s. I'm really not sure which I prefer but I really like both.

Audio-Gd Compass 2 with the ES9018 chip. Which out of the 3 chips available with this product is supposed to be the most analytic, the other two are meant to be warm o.O.

This is what KingWa (the owner of audio-gd) e-mailed me when I inquired. (poor English he's Chinese)

The ES9018 sound emphasize the detail and dynamic. It is most neutral sound, bass is tightly and control.
The WM8741 sound a bit on warm and smooth side, its bass is deep and rich but not as tightly as the ES9018.
The PCM5102 sound like the ES9018 on middle and high but not as transparency as the ES9018. Its bass between the ES9018 and the WM8741.

Who knows maybe I just prefer stuff that isn't super heavy with bass? Idk. It seems a lot of you are coming from Fidelio X1s which I haven't tried. Although I also own Beyedynamic DT770s which are meant to be really bassy, I haven't used them in a while though.

Received my Q701's today, absolutely appalled with the packaging quality and the build quality of the headphones. It was almost enough to make me put them back in the box and flog them without listening to them.

I persevered and am listening through them at the moment. They sound good. Haven't done any back to back listening with the X1's yet, but I suspect that I might keep the X1's and get rid of the Q701's simply because they feel like £24.99 bargain bin specials when you pick them up, and it is disheartening.
