***AKG Q701 Official Owners Thread***

Looks like I've been able to pick up a pair of these from the MM at the second attempt. Will be happy with these and my DT770s for quite a while I should think (or at least my wallet hopes!)

Anyone want to swap a black pair for a white pair? :p

Okay I just listened to a song with some nice clear vocals... Nobody is taking these away from me... BACK OFF!

Should have got the white pair, everybody knows they're better and since white contains all the colours of the visible spectrum, are the master race as far as headphone colours go :p

Wait what!

I bought them in white...

I wish I had bought them in black...

Which is odd considering the fact that my PC case, cable braid, case/keyboard/mouse lighting and even my desk are white. :p

I guess you can't see them when theyre on your head though. :p

Listening to This Is War by 30 Seconds to Mars. :)

Audio-Gd Compass 2 with the ES9018 chip. Which out of the 3 chips available with this product is supposed to be the most analytic, the other two are meant to be warm o.O.

This is what KingWa (the owner of audio-gd) e-mailed me when I inquired. (poor English he's Chinese)

Who knows maybe I just prefer stuff that isn't super heavy with bass? Idk. It seems a lot of you are coming from Fidelio X1s which I haven't tried. Although I also own Beyedynamic DT770s which are meant to be really bassy, I haven't used them in a while though.

Looks a quality unit, something I think I need.

I think my amp was not really up to getting the most out of the 701s, an audioengine D1. I tried my onboard audio and TBH it was not that much better than the D1, bass was terrible.

Going to pick up a better amp and look into the 701s again because I really did prefer the mids and treble over the X1.

Someone on Head-Fi asked me to write a little review. Can read it here if you want:

How much did it cost you?

You pay: Price of goods + shipping + paypal fees.

I didn't get touched by customs but they write on the form that it is a "PC sound card" and it's worth a lot less. (they give you the option to not put this)

According to my paypal it was £371. I paid for upgraded TCXOs which was an extra 40 dollars so I guess it would be around £350 all in if you didn't get those. Also the other chips are cheaper.

What are you using currently?

They're pretty well regarded on Head-Fi although their website is pretty ****** looking. Communications were good the guy was helpful although his english isn't great.

An audioengine D1 USB powered, I'm now looking to upgrade but not over £300, 200 max.

Do what I did, make a thread on Head-Fi tell them your budget, what sound you like and what headphones you have and they'll recommend you a product.

There is this: http://www.audio-gd.com/Pro/Headphoneamp/NFB112014/NFB112014EN.htm

Which is what I was recommended initially on Head-Fi although the Compass 2 is supposed to be the big brother to that. So if it sounds anything like what I have I can recommend it.

amps or DAC/Amp's?

If just an amp: Matrix M-Stage, Schiit Vali (cheap valve amp), Schiit Asgard II

If DAC/Amp: Audio-GD NFB-11, Matrix M-Stage HPA-2(USB)
