***AKG Q701 Official Owners Thread***

Anyone finding that when they use their headphones at a desk the cable keeps trailing or snagging might want to try one of these clip things, very handy!

Mines short enough now it just runs rests on my chair. Even though its quite thick cable I dont get any pull when its running like that either. Ridges on headband are abit annoying after using for awhile but think Im going to sell my X1's and just keep these. Anyone had any experience with the out of your head software? The demos on the site seem really decent.

doesn't Razer have some "gaming" virtual surround software for free or £10 that does the same thing?

I'm sure my Asus software does the same thing too for free.

I doubt many on here would buy into it tbh, it's simulating surround sound (virtual surround sound) into a set of headphones. I'll try the demos later on and see if they are any good.

Thought I'd post this in here since it was mainly you guys that contributed to me getting this. Basically massdrop have a referral scheme where if you refer people and they buy something you get points and when those points add up you get sent a gift box.

They sent it marked as a gift but declared it's value to be roughly $90 so I had to pay customs on this of roughly £23 (I was also hit by customs on the Q701 of roughly £25, my luck must really suck).

So I shall go from boring to most exciting, first up.

Lego themed notepad, you can take the rubber lego pieces off to open it up and you can replace the notepad with one of a similar size when used up. I don't really use a notepad so my wife took this off me and she seems to love it. I thought it was pretty meh tbh.

Next up is the x-vibe, it sounds like and looks like an adult toy but it's a portable speaker system which uses any surface as it's speaker. Connect it to a pane of glass and it produces a different sound than if you connected it to say a wooden table or a metal tin. I will try this out but tbh I already have a decent portable bluetooth speaker which I paid good money for and will most likely be a lot better. So I will probably end up giving this away to someone as a gift.

Next up is socks, I like the purple, I dislike the flowers. I will wear them but not exactly something to get excited about. I wouldn't personally buy socks like these but since they were free I will wear them I don't like "flowery" clothing.

Now this is some sort of loose tea thingymajig, basically you put loose tea into it, add hot water, then you twist the top which swirls the thing inside catching and trapping all the loose tea and squeezing the flavour out. I don't drink tea but since I got this I think I'm going to give it a try, if anyone can point me in the right direction of some cheap places to buy loose tea which tastes nice I would appreciate it. I will be looking in B and M for some next time I'm in there.

this is a skull shaped shot glass, well the skull is inside a very large shot glass, it holds more than two shots in it. It's not something I would personally ever use as a shot glass. What I will have to do is buy a bottle of that crystal skull vodka (the very overly priced vodka which I had no intention of buying before receiving this) and then sit this glass beside it just for show. It's a cool little item but again not something I would personally buy or use but keep for show. It's a really nice glass and it's made out of glass and not plastic, etc, but it's far too big to be used as a shot glass, it's also far too nice imo to be used as one.

Next up is another skull themed item it's a Zippo lighter. I don't smoke, neither do I plan on ever doing so. Therefore I don't really know what to do with this. It's got a price tag on it for roughly $27 iirc, so it's not a cheap lighter. The design though is a bit mental, not my cup of tea, it looks worse in the pictures than what it actually is, it's not that bad but not what I would have bought if I was in the market for a zippo lighter. My wife lights a lot of candles etc so I may keep it for that purpose but we normally use matches as they are a lot easier to use IMO.

Last up is a mystery item, tbh it's the only item which made me spending £23 on receiving this worthwhile. Can you guess what it is?

The headphone stand, looks brilliant, quality is fairly good as well tbh. Overall not bad, you can order these direct from china yourself using aliexpress and other cheap sites like that which let you bypass any middle men. The finish isn't as smooth as an elitist would want, if you want a perfect product spend more on a premium branded one.

That's all folks, my next gift box is not too far away.

Invite 5 friends to Massdrop and receive your very own custom Gift Box. Once all of your friends have made a purchase, we'll ship you a personalized gift box based on your interests with around $50 worth of products that have been previously run on Massdrop. After you're done, don't stop! We'll be giving out awards for 10, 25, and 50 referrals, and each box will be of increasing value.

You have invited 117 people so far, 18 qualify for the promotion.

The box posted in this thread was a combined 5 and 10 referral box, so two boxes in one, don't expect that much stuff in just a 5 referral box. Need 7 more buyers then I get my 25 referral box which is manageable I doubt I'll ever hit the 50 box though.

That's a very impressive collection for a "thank you" gift.
I used to use a Zippo when I smoked (not done so for six years) but it will be useless for something like lighting candles because the fuel will evaporate between uses.
That headphone stand is a definite step up from the mug tree though :)

XVibe is meh. Zippo is kinda cool. The Omega headphone stand pretty much costs the same as your custom charge, but I hate them, they're amazing at destroying headbands and ear pads.

Giving one of these a try.

Works out at £17 delivered.

looks neat and perfect for two headphones.... hmmmm

looks similar to a mug tree tbh which only costs £4.50, the mug tree has the additional benefit of being picked up next time you go to the supermarket and has additional arms for IEM's, etc.

I'm thinking I might cover the headphone stand (from massdrop) in some sort of material so it doesn't destroy ear pads, it's not 100% smooth and I don't trust it.

Yea not sure on weight of it but its 26cm tall so hopefully big and sturdy enough. Will report what its like if it comes while still im at home.

Not sure ive seen any mug trees that look that decent. Maybe yours is different.

I have the same one as Sonny and while it does the job, I'm not overly happy with the weight of the headphones just resting on such a thin arm, the top in the one you posted looks much wider, so will spread the weight better.
