***AKG Q701 Official Owners Thread***

Maybe they should sell them as headphone stretchers, for lowering the clamping force. In my view a headphone stand should just support the headphones freely, with no pressure put on the headband or pads whatsoever.

Seriously tempted to buy them, however, I have 2 great cans already and I'm not sure I can justify them. Compared to my TH-600. 712 pro are more comfortable, felt lighter. Both have sparkly highs, although the 712 seemed less sharp but more spacious (open back). Midrange had nice snap, punchy sounding, no boom, very clean. There wasn't the lower sub kick that I get from TH-600 but that was to be expected. Very nice cans.

Also, compared to the Fidelio X1. Better in all respects minus the X1's flabby loose bottom bass :p

Does anyone have any views on how AKG Q701s stack-up against the Sennheiser HD595s for FPS gaming?

I've been using Senn HD595s for FPSing for many years and have been very satisfied with them. I feel they offer a "bass light", crisp, detailed sound, a good sound-stage, and offer me good perception of positional sound. In fact, I'm just about to have my set repaired/refurbished by Sennheiser.

Any views are much appreciated.

Until someone steps in with better, there's a guide on head-fi targeted at gamers which I think is a reasonably good staring point before looking for further information on a particular set of headphones and covers most of the headphones that get mentioned (although not the HD595's unfortunately): http://www.head-fi.org/t/534479/mad-lust-envys-headphone-gaming-guide-update-7-9-2014-ultrasone-hfi-15g-added

I haven't used the HD595's or jumped on the Q701's becuase I'm happy with the 2 main headphones I have (X1's/HD598's on any combo of Fiio e7/e9, Creative SB ZxR or Astro Mixamp).

However what I would say is that personally I think I'm a Sennheiser fan becuase although I really enjoy the X1's I prefer the HD598's for most things including gaming. Therefore I personally want to try the HD600 or 650 next on a new Amp/DAC but will have to wait until funds allow.

Without trying it's very difficult to say which you'll prefer although there's lot of positive reviews on the Q/K701's (although the UK price has them in some tough competition).
