Alan Carr's EasyWay To Stop Smoking

Same here, I've even had the odd puff when drunk and it's tasted bloody awful!
I've never tried one since, I've been tempted, but never actually tried. I think I am too scared of being dragged back into the system.

It's the same with Cigars, I'd love one now and again but they'd just lead back down the same path.

How did you guys quit with the book? I mean I am halfway through it, and still smoking. Did you stop at the end? Or did you quit before you even picked up the book?

So what is it exactly that this book does that makes you want to stop smoking. It seems strange that a book can convince you to stop doing something that is massively illogical in the first place.

I don't really know many heavy smokers but most people I know who have given up have just decided one day that they have had enough and just stopped.

Genuine question; can someone explain how this book leads you to want to stop smoking.

p.s.

I smoked a fair bit of weed there for a while and really enjoyed smoking joints but I never got any form of withdrawal when I stopped for a few weeks but the first joint after the break was horrible (taste wise). Almost taking me back to the first one I smoked. A few more though and its fine again. I think that there is a propensity amongst ex smokers to look down on those that still smoke and have the attitude that "if you think you enjoy it, you are kidding yourself" whereas the reality may be that when you are a regular smoker, it tastes completely differently to someone who hasn't smoked in a while.

I'm half way through the book, and I have 6 cigarettes left. Think these will be my last!

I think the way the book differs from - for example - the NHS campaigns is that it isn't out to scare you out of smoking. The author used to be a chain-smoker (up to 100 a day apparently!) and the way he goes about explaining the addiction and the benefits of escaping from smoking is honestly refreshing and his approach is unlike any that I've heard of before.

I will have to see if I can grab a copy from somewhere but I just can't see how this is such a life changing book from how people have described it. Everyone knows the health issues with cigarettes so if you still smoke then you have accepted those.

The benefits are quite obvious as well I would have thought.

  • You don't smell
  • Clothes don't smell
  • House doesn't smell
  • Much more money
  • No cravings for cigarettes
  • Health benefits
  • Life doesn't revolve around smoking
  • Better mood

So what exactly does he say that makes you say "I'm done".

Whats the bullet points of it though?

Does it just tell you how idiotic you are for firstly starting something you know is addictive, a danger to your health and costly?

Personally I can't vouch for the smoking book, but my Father-In-Law read it and quit a fair few years ago.

I got his Easyweigh to lose weight book, very interesting read.

Well done to all that have packed in.

Today is the start of my 3rd year smoke free, someone I knew quit way before me with the help of the Allen Carr book, he swore by it. I've never read it myself.

If it provides you with strength to pull through the toughest stretch then read on, I'd say read it a few more times to let it sink in.

Just get a copy, it's easier than tying to explain how the author goes about it.

Read the book in one sitting. I would recommend doing it as such because it's so numbing.

That was >7 years a go. Was smoking for 10 years before that. Not a single ciggie (or craving).

Dunno if it was because of the book or not. But I don't care. I recommend the book to anyone who wants to quit. Apart from a few hours reading, what do you have to lose?

I bought my g/f at the time this book about 5 years ago. She refused to read it for ages but once she did read it all the way through, fags went in the bin & she never smoked again!
