Alan Carr's EasyWay To Stop Smoking

I switched to vaping and lowered the nicotine strength gradually. Stopped altogether within 3 months. Less than 3 days once the nicotine was at 0% in the vapour.

I used to think I enjoyed smoking, now I realise that anyone who says that is actually just conning themselves because of the addiction. :)

I was recommended this book by a close friend of mine. I bought it and read it straight away and as I'd been told by many people, I didn't find it easy. I read it another two times a few weeks ago and still don't "see" what he's trying to put across.

Anyway, I'm just wondering if anyone on here has managed it with the book? And more for my personal research, has someone read the book and failed, and as a consequence gone to a clinic? What was it like, and are you a non-smoker now?

I read the book, stopped smoking! Would recommend it to anyone thinking about stopping.

I'd smoked for 15 years or so and have been stopped for 7 now, was on 20-40 a day at the time.

Definitely.

It worked for a friend of mine. She went from 30-40 a day to none in the time it took to read the book.

My housemate has the DVD version but it didn't work for him, but then he is a bit special so ya know :P

I just woke up one day and decided I didn't want to smoke any more and have not had one since - it was incredibly easy and I don't get why people find it so hard to stop. It's 99% in your head. I've since read the book to see what it's all about and this is exactly what he's trying to say, only in a rather stupid and condescending way. Still, if it works for some then great!

I just used champix and plain ole willpower, ive stopped since Sept so its been 3mths now and im loving it plus the fact that im saving a lot more money. Altho theres the odd occasion where i fancy having a cig but ive come so far that it would be a shame to start again.

Sod the book, i bought a copy 5 yrs ago and it didnt help me one single bit.

What about all the people who never get to that stage? I never did. I wanted to quit, but I couldn't manage the anxiety (not the craving) when I did try . I read the book, I understood the concept, but I DID feel like I was giving something up regardless of understanding why I felt that way. I always caved in.

Your doctor can prescribe anxiolytics to cover the withdrawal.

Bit of an oxymoron, surely? :)

No not really...the tabs help with the craving, willpower is needed to stay off them ie not buying cigs. The tabs dont miraculously make you stop smoking, they help with the cravings but they wont make you suddenly give up lol. Thats where willpower comes in...

I must admit that I envy those of you that quit and don't get cravings. 10+ years quit and I still have days when I really want a cigarette :(

But not given in to temptation yet :D

Just for a bit of perspective, I had smoked for 15 years with a 18 month break in the middle. Stopped cold in the end.

I still get cravings, not often though, like once every few months.

Sometimes when I smell cigarette smoke it makes me want to be sick and other times it smells lush.

Excellent thread, read his book in September after being a smoker for about 16 years, have quit before with using Nicotine replacment products which have a flaw. It doesn't matter if you smoke a cigeratte, cigar, chew tobacco or any nictone replacment like patches, gum etc the addicition is there. Break the cycle, the nictone only remains in your system for around three weeks, after that your brain is what you need to teach that it's no good paying a a lot of cash to stink and poision yourself to a slow death!

Same here, I've even had the odd puff when drunk and it's tasted bloody awful!
