Alan Wake 2

Just had a 3.3GB patch on XSX, hopefully fixes a few bugs.

I've come across a couple that required a reload which is lame.

Game is still first-rate though!

I've had to start replaying this - there's a pretty prominent bug as you get towards the end (check Reddit).

Patches so far have failed to address the issue.

The game is still class but Christ, it's pretty buggy indeed.

I'm really, really enjoying this, it's as compelling to keep playing as Control was and there are definitely hints of Control throughout. The pacing is so much better than the first game which would often just keep throwing enemies at you to push you forward, whereas in this one you're given much more opportunity and reason to look around and explore. I'm playing on PS5 and have had no game-breaking bugs either.

The only thing I'm not entirely sold on is the character switching, it's a neat thing but I'm not sure I see the point and it sort of feels like it breaks the narrative flow a bit. Switching to throwable weapons is far too clunky too, even with them on Quick Slots if you're in the middle of being attacked it becomes really difficult to get them out.

I've just finished it and really enjoyed it.

The atmosphere and graphics are exceptional - really feels like you're part of it.

I love the collectables and mechanics (charm bracelet) to power up/boost Saga.

It's not perfect though - I've encountered numerous bugs, from audio cutting out, to objects not being interactive (when they should be), falling through the map and various other niggles.

I found this and with health too, takes an absolute age to do anything when under pressure.

Overall, it's great. Thoroughly recommended single player experience and bizarrely, I've got 1000/1000 achievements so that's nice.

Finished this last night and thoroughly enjoyed the many hours I spent with it. It's a slower-paced game than the first which I really appreciated as it gave you far more opportunity to take your time, explore and enjoy some of the environmental storytelling. The mind place/writers room mechanic was very creative, and a great way to lets players keep track of the various narrative threads as the game goes on. I wasn't sure about the character switching mechanic earlier but having finished the game it makes a bit more sense now and I quite like that different players perhaps would have been piecing certain things together in a different way to others depending on which character they chose to play as and when. I'm usually a fan of performance mode but I took Remedy's recommendation of Quality mode this time and found it worked fine, the slower pace of the game lends made dealing with the lower framerate much easier.

Credit to Remedy where it's due too, they've been very proactive at patching this to fix issues, though the only significant bug I had is being unable to move a couple of times after reloading a save, forcing a quit/restart.

The trophies were also well-designed, my platinum popped at the end credits without requiring any trophy-specific mop-up from me, very rewarding for players who choose to explore and find all the items and collectibles anyway.

Excited to see what the future DLC brings.

Just started this and really impressed so far, feels like another quality Remedy game. Visually stunning, looking forward to getting stuck into this. Took some time to go around the first map and found a few collectibles on the way, so pays to explore!

Without spoiling anything, there are multiple opportunities to return to all of the main areas you play as Saga in right up until the end, so don't fret about missing anything early on.

I'm absolutely lost and no idea what i'm doing! Had it pretty much under control, got halfway into to this subway station and i've just lost the plot (literally!) Wandering around wondering where to go or what to do, is it designed to be this confusing or am I just getting old

Maybe, I'm old and keep feeling it's a complete mess to the point that I simply don't connect with it or care if I get to the next part. Although in saying that I might be close to the end anyway, not sure.
[ just completed some music video]

I enjoy it's quirkiness but it's all over the place.

At the weird musical tv show interlude bit now, very slickly done... however i still feel like im barely playing a game, 90% of the gameplay seems to be walking about pressing A and that's about it.

Scratch that, decided to play on some more and something just clicked, then got to the 'musical' part wow, absolutely blown away! Worth carrying on just for that.

Was finding it pretty ok but that segment will have to go down as one of my greatest gaming memories!

Just grabbed a copy of this with a quick visit to Nigeria.

So far it’s ok just about it seems very janky in places and I’m not really liking the Saga character much she seems a bit wooden. Maybe it will improve but something about the voice actor just seems crap.

Yet to meet Alan and have really not got far so hoping it picks up a bit as it progresse. I’m trying to play in quality mode for the best graphical experience but the 30fps is sluggish. Performance mode runs better but is meant to be a considerable graphics downgrade.

Hoping it gets a bit better as it goes on.

I’ve gotten to the section where you meet Alan having purchased it a few days ago.

I am not too impressed with certain parts of the game, and yes 30fps in Quality mode is a struggle. I turned off motion blur right away as I hate that. Npcs are lifeless in this so bright falls seems a bit zombie like but that could be on purpose I suspect. Animations seem a bit broken or randomly choppy in places ie when Saga climbs down a stair or a rocky step in the forest.

Story is ok so far, no complaints yet.

It’s definitely not up too Remedy’s usual standards. Control was fantastic.

Hoping it picks up a bit as so far it’s a bit of a letdown.
God I wish you guys would say this in the PC version thread about this, I voiced some of these options (bar the performance as PC ;) ) and they were not happy/wouldn't hear any of it.
I don't want to ruin anything for you, but I'll say this, get used to the same handful of levels/revisiting spots/an ending where nothing is resolved that reeks of cash in DLC/Sequel, I totally agree Control/Quantum Break/Max Payne 1-3 were WAY better, there simply is NO excuse.

The TLDR with this is they seem to ruin it with humour where it isn't needed/ruin the immersion with silliness/taking you out of the momentum created, then build up to a load of over hype, then end with an empty ending, there isn't even an end boss/struggle. It's just walk here and back with both characters... Then it ends, with nothing resolved. I was fuming, as I hated the original but replayed it so that I could do the last Control DLC... This sequel became SO good in places, then it flopped, and the aforementioned happened, and I thought... Oh 'that's it' is it... Sigh.

It also features many parts with archaic game engine physics/interaction, like not being able to climb a simple waist height wall/npc's repeating limited dialogue/not knowing you're even there, paired with the lack luster hand full of levels repeated, is very disappointing, I got 19 hours in and was loving most of it, then afterwards realised, this is only about a third good of it's potential :( sucks as it could have been my GOTY up till 19 hours...

The singing part absolutely RUINS the immersion/tension/pace built up and is just a stupid unrequired bit of silly filler content with badly acted dancing/singing playing on basic bitch tiled walls whilst you try to navigate where to go, but of course cause YT shills/reviewers rant about it, it is 'the cool thing' to mention by any sheep who plays it, in reality, it ruins the pace you were at and wasn't needed. It's just childish, as is the bit on the concert that is a homage to that rubbish part in the first one at the farm...

They're sense of humour is definitely worlds apart from the western world... And majorly not needed, this could have been terrifying/very serious/immersive, instead they paired it with shockingly bad acted live action cutscenes/jokes/singing/lack of level variety and re-use/lack of an ending. What a waste. They were doing so well half way through.

The thing that really sucks, is the fact that my first 19 hours I was sold on it, thought they'd finally made up for the joke that was the original. I was sold, felt like some of their best work, like MP1-3/Control/Quantum Break, then they ran off with the budget and ruined it. I was so ready to crown it my GOTY until that point :(
