Alex Jones..

This might be an unpopular opinion but this fine size is ridiculous.

I agree with the judgement of the court and that AJ is guilty.

But burying someone in debt is typical of the corrupt American system.

Funny that the size is set by the jury, not the system, the system didn't set a minimum. The average American, his peers, set the amount.

I personally don't think there is a number they can hit him with that could get CLOSE, not even 10% of what the parents felt. What he deserves is much more, like perhaps what all the parents felt together...that would be fair.

I assume the appeals and other justice system nonsense will get that down to $10m, hence why it's so big.
It might get trimmed down on appeal, but I doubt it'll get trimmed down that much, especially as Jones appears to have done absolutely nothing to try and prove his side of the case and has been described repeatedly by multiple judges as abusing the system to avoid providing the information he was legally obliged to, and lying to the court. I'm not sure what grounds he would actually have, he certainly can't argue he didn't get a chance to put his side forward when he was actively refusing to provide information and hide it.

Valérie Bemeriki has entered the chat.

His personal wealth might be ~$400 million, but his company will be worth a lot more than that. It was pulling in hundreds of millions of dollars per day.
A day, hmm I don't think so. I don't need to argue here, his company is currently going through bankruptcy court so the true numbers will come apparent to die course.

What exactly about this ruling indicates corruption? It's typical for the initial sum to be huge, and for that sum to be substantially reduced on appeal.

You're right, I was a few figures out. Oops. It was >$800,000 per day during 2018. At one point Infowars was so profitable, Jones was paying himself an annual salary of $6 million per year.

his company is currently going through bankruptcy court so the true numbers will come apparent to die course.

His company is attempting tactical bankruptcy for the sole purpose of evading the damages. Not because it can't afford them, but because Jones doesn't want to pay them.

What's the point? Anything over $10m is pointless as they'll never ever see that money. He's not that rich. I don't know what the laws are like in the US, but doesn't all he have to do is declare bankruptcy and carry on a few years later?

The point isn't set a punitive for "what do you think he will get after more litigation, and when he find some legal loophole to avoid paying a penny".

That isn't the point, that is never on the agenda. That is not the job of the jury.

The jury set a number that they think he should pay. How it plays out after, is not their concern.

They are 2 separate things.

That's the point.

Listening to Andrew Torrez on Opening Arguments podcast today, he doesn't think Jones stands a chance of getting these awards reduced on appeal. It seems the families lawyers are already well on top of him and his attempts to hide his money. He expects them to call him in for a deposition, most likely in Texas and ask him where he has assets, if he refuses to attend the judge can issue an arrest warrant and he can be locked up until he agrees to sit for the deposition. It really is looking like he might finally have run out of road and will have to pay for the pain and suffering he caused just to enrich himself.

From what I understand, the company is attempting to move assets to other companies, declare bankruptcy now this company has no kjey or assets left, and then continue with the other new company that has those assets.

Similar to what trump is attempting to do with trump organisation 2

He may not be, but it's not just him that owes the money.

Tim apple is not that rich, but his company sure is. Sue both and you'll end up with a pretty penny.

He's worth ~$300 million. As previously stated in this thread, it's common in the US for damages to be awarded at a super high rate, because they're typically reduced on appeal. So the final figure has yet to be seen, and it's likely to be substantially lower.

The bottom line is that this case needs to serve as a deterrent. The damage to Jones and his company must be as brutal as the law can possibly allow.

As always rob, you should have led with the bit you don't understand. I've bolded it for you.

To your first point, you've missed it entirely, and to your second, no one is surprised.
