Alienware announces the AW2725DF and AW3225QF (worlds first 4k 240hz and worlds first 1440p 360hz QD-OLED monitors - launches January 2024)

Which one would you buy if you had to choose between the two, is the step up to 4K more important than the 360hz refresh rate?

tempted to buy the 27" model just because I can have it to play with by the end of the week.
The increase from 240Hz to 360Hz is pretty small, maybe relevant if you're a serious or competitive gamer and are chasing best motion clarity, frame rates etc. I think the increase to the 4K resolution and the larger screen size of 32" is more beneficial to most people :)

see my review here: https://tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell-alienware-aw3225qf

50% off 3 year pro support right now, if anyone is considering buying at the moment like myself, not much of a saving but if you have a 5% off code as well, better than nothing come up to £83 in savings for the 4K. Guessing it's worth it as you can just use the monitor as you wish at that point.

I'm not upto date with current monitor specs, however at work I plug my keyboard/mouse into the screen and my laptop into the usb-c and I can use multiscreen that way. Does the usb-c port on this screen work in the same way?

I'm hoping to share a keyboard/monitor at home with my gaming pc and work laptop for ease and by only needing to plug the usb-c in to switch

Apologies for the basic question but until recently I'd never made use of the usb upstream on a monitor!

No KVM with this.

Ah OK, that answers that question then! What should I be looking for in the specs to see if this is supported? When I say connect both I mean to only use one at a time, just the ease of leaving my main pc hooked up with just an upstream to share the keyboard/mouse with the laptop just using a usb-c to the monitor is so handy for working from home.

Are there any alternative 32 4ks oleds out that can do this that you know of?

The MPG 321URX has a KVM - you can just buy a separate KVM which is what I’m going to do when my Dell turns up.

You would need a KVM switch built in to the monitor as stated, but you’d also need the screen to support a USB-C port with DP alt mode for video and power delivery to charge your laptop. The Dell AW3225QF doesn’t have either I’m afraid

I have noticed a moderately distracting issue with the Netflix app when using it on my AW2725DF with the Standard profile SDR mode which at first I thought was flickering. It isn't is related to the use of subtitles where the screen noticeably darkens when displaying the (white) subtitles then brightens slightly when they disappear until the next subtitles appear then the screen darkens again. I thought this had a stable brightness level when using in SDR mode but what I am seeing appears to be the ABL (Automatic Brightness Level) doing its thing. This was seen while watching the awful remake of Firestarter by the way, again in SDR not HDR.

Am I wrong here as I haven't noticed ABL in games even though I also play those with subtitles enabled?

Its not ABL, but rather Multi Logo dimming
described here https://youtu.be/Cr6x35C3xtU?t=289
Actually clarified on the next review https://youtu.be/yNQJncYWGac?t=542

There is no option to disable it on AW, but supposedly its not active in Creator SDR mode

Thank you! I knew I'd read somewhere about one of the modes having a static brightness level. Guess I'll be switching to that for Netflix... I believe you can set individual colour profiles to use for specific apps in the Dell app I have installed.

Ah damn that sucks, I nearly ordered it as well! I take it none of the Alienware oleds offer this?

So for future reference I need a monitor with USB-C port with DP alt mode in order to be a one stop place to plug my keyboard/mouse for use with either the pc or work laptop? As I stayed above I don't need to use both pc and laptop at the same time, while having the ease of only one cable to plug in. From my limited understanding then, if there is no KVM switch the USB connections only work with whatever is connected to the upstream? It's the KVm that allows the laptop to work when plugging into the usb-c?
