Alienware announces the AW2725DF and AW3225QF (worlds first 4k 240hz and worlds first 1440p 360hz QD-OLED monitors - launches January 2024)

YouTuber claiming the SDR color accuracy of the new Alienware monitors is completely unusable but it's ok because he created an ICC windows profile to fix it and all you have to do is pay him money to fix your Alienware
Saw that video yesterday, thought it seemed a little suspect because literally every other review I've seen has mentioned how good the colours are but according to that guy its trash and unusable without his fix

I watched that video today and really couldn’t tell what he was getting at. He seemed to be implying sRGB emulation within HDR mode (eg viewing windows desktop) was overly bright and a bit washed out, but that’s fairly common anyway. Plus more importantly there’s no point/reason to use HDR mode to view SDR content anyway, it’s not recommended. So just use it when you want to view actual HDR content, problem solved

Yeah just seemed like a bit of a con to get money out of people but if you read the comments on the video a lot of people are defending him...

The thumbnail, title and initial positioning were way OTT, suggesting it's a major problem and broken. when in fact he's really trying to use it in a non-standard way. very odd

The most interesting oled this year is the 27inch 480hz.

@Baddass you got a way to measure color volume now? but interesting to see if LG is solely relying on MLA, then color volume boost should be minimal.
Yes I have although I’m currently working on a method to demonstrate this kind of thing better. The increases with the new WOLED panels to 1300 nits are just to white luminance. The actual colour gamut remains the same as current panels

Oh my thats frikking crazy. Well done Sir!!

I presume the monitors do not have the colour enchancer from g3? Its probably a software overdrive to rgb subpixels.

I'd assume that's some kind of software based vividness booster. Individual monitors could offer things like that as well, but it will be down to the manufacturer. But none of it would change the underlying colour gamut from the panel :)

I personally found gamut rings as an easy visual representation: https://dday.it/redazione/47044/recensione-tv-qd-oled-samsung-s95c-buona-anche-la-seconda as used here.

For those not aware why the color volume/luminance is talked about as a key differentiator between QD OLED and WOLED:

What are Dell like with returns? I know their warranty service is supposed to be very good but say I bought one of the new OLED monitors direct from Dell but then decide its not for me after a day or so use and return the monitor do they charge a restocking fee or anything like that?
