alienware AW3418DW Availability in the UK?

What price is this going for at present with some negotiation?
Would any reasonably priced gaming laptop drive it or do I need a desktop level GPU?

I have a 4k 65 inch TV downstairs but I am VERY tempted to now just run two rigs as I miss desk gaming with a KB and mouse.
And this monitor does look ace for video editing too.

Ended up with teh X34P after folks advice (thanks all!). Just gotta clear up my office to get it installed. "Downgrading" from a 1440p + 4k but its going to be glorious to have it all on one screen.

Well, mine's been delivered. The odyssey is over! The box is blood enormous - guess that's to account for the curve of the screen?

I'll post impressions later, after I get a chance to set it up.

Okay, I've set the beast up - quite a slick setup process.

First impressions are... Not great tbh :/

Firstly, there is a significant amount of backlight bleed in the bottom left and (particularly) bottom right corner. Pretty noticeable on a black background even during the day. Top corners seem fine. No dead / stuck pixels but still.

More worryingly, the screen flashes slightly at random intervals :/ the outline of the left-half of the screen is visible when it flashes, and a line of white pixels flashes up at the top of the left half. Quite distracting in desktop mode, and not a good sign for longevity.

On the plus side, I played a bit of Doom, and 120Hz is incredible... I suddenly became a demon slaughtering badass. The screen "feels" a lot smaller than my 30" 16:10, even though the screen area is about the same. Probably just have to get used to it I think, though the legs of the stand are quite long so I can't have it as close to me as I'd like without them getting in the way of the keyboard and mouse.

The backlight bleed I could maybe live with, but the flashing is not good at all. I guess I'll have to send it back. I'm really not looking forward to another 8 week wait :/

Try a different cable first? I've had flickering caused by a cable on other monitors.

I'm surprised people haven't talked about flicker much here from quick reading, when looking at this and the x34p I keep seeing people post on reddit etc about flickering issues related to the unstable refresh rate after a few weeks of use. To stop it most have to go back to the native 100hz, one had to go to 95hz to keep it stable.

I'm also surprised by the popularity of alienware and the x34p (genuinely curious), the alienware has lower contrast and poor gamma that needs a profile which some games wont work with, both can have uneven screen brightness/colour a problem with some units and the flickering issue with the refresh, then theres also the scanline issue albeit that seems to be a gsync issue on all gsync displays. I don't understand why people really want these with the issues. I mean they do look awesome, was looking at getting the x34p but with all the issues I'd be sick worried about getting one that actually worked

A different cable seems to have done the trick - thanks for the tip :)

The backlight bleed is kind of annoying, but I think I can live with it. Better at the bottom corners than the top. Hardly ideal for a £900+ screen tho...

Try some calibration. I have an LG 29UM65 2560x1080 and felt it way too bright which didn't help with some bleed in the corners. It was so bright it was hurting my eyes TBH. The brightness runs from 0-100. I have it on....6 and contract at 54. (Your values may vary of course!). Reduce the brightness to give a more natural picture and you may find the bleed is significantly reduced.

Mine arrived yesterday, even though I changed the delivery to tomorrow. I got a call as i was on my way back from a long weekend a couple miles from home and courier kindly waited for me so that was a nice surprise for me :)
First impressions, Wow. Huge box! Gonna have trouble storing this somewhere. just quickly set it all up and must say, im pretty impressed. i can see a very small hint of backlight bleed in the bottom right hand corner but I've yet to sit down and calibrate it first - A job for next couple of days.

Anyone know where i can get calibration tips from? I'm sure someone posted up the ICC Profile somewhere.

Probably 20 hours of gameplay on my X34P and no issues so far at 120hz.
