The Times reporting that:
Arsenal have stepped up interest in Edin Dzeko but Manchester City want about £18 million for him.
Spurs are looking at Loïc Rémy as a replacement for Van der Vaart.
I don't geddit. Why would we get rid of a player of such pedigree for such a small amount of cash? (Exactly the same applies to Dawson). We could not buy the equivalent for 9m and we are not in the position that we can attract superstars because we are competing against more money, trophies and CL football.
VdV is our match changer. He is truly one of the few players in the PL who will walk onto any stage and swing things. He has poor fitness but we got him for a song and just seeing him available (even on the bench) is such an asset to any manager. This is also recognised by the Netherlands.
I don't think Remy fits that description. He is good but lacks VdVs brilliance and capacity to swing a game.
Unless VdV is desperate to get back to Germany, I would love us to keep him. Am a bit gutted to be honest. He is like a young Jol in interviews too. I love his honesty, bonhommie and hard work.
On the plus side, Dembele is a super signing for us. Remy
old be good if he is strong enough to play alone up front but not at the expense of VdV.
On the manager; AVB promoted evolution not revolution and that he had learned from his Chelsea mistakes. The following nods from AVB contradict this:
- selling Dawson for £9m and keeping Gallas
- selling thud when he is one of our two best passers.
- letting VdV go.
- playing jenas and livrrmore over a fit again thud in two matches that needed some creativity.
Of course I will give be him time, but the warning signs are there. I detested Sir Twitchy but am far from convnced by these changes.
AVB showed nothing at Chelsea, so wouldn't expect that much from him however...
Huddlestone's move to Stoke was apparently comprimised due to the fee because their medical team found a chronic ankle problem, even if a player is top class, if they can't play they aren't any good and Huddlestone is one dimensional.. as I've said about Hernandez and a dozen others, when there are players out there who are excellent in every aspect of their game, keeping a guy who can do one thing isn't a particularly good idea. Huddlestone is immensely replaceable, hasn't been fit, and isn't particularly good. Of course Stoke decided that Ba's knee couldn't handle premiership football either
Dawson, other than an injury prone player, isn't the best CB around and might simply want to leave for one reason or another. VDV's wife lives in Germany, he wants to be within banging range, can you blame him? Ultimately career's good, hot wife is better, he wants to live in Germany.
Also its not rare to not play someone you are trying to offload, especially if they have a dodgy ankle and you don't want it aggrevated before a medical.

Swansea winger Scott Sinclair, 23, will undergo a medical at Man City today after £6.2m fee agreed. Set to sign 4 year deal later.
Everton hope to complete a £5m deal for FC Copenhagen’s Costa Rican international Bryan Oviedo before Friday’s transfer deadline.
Everton in pole position for Copenhagen's Bryan Oviedo. WBA not in the picture and a deal worth around £5m looks likely before tomorrow.
Scott Sinclair is going to have fun joining the bench warming staff at City.
I'd have fun warming their bench for hundred grand a week.
Its funny because people are saying Sinclair will be a bench warmer. Yet no one has ever mentioned that when Moses, Marin, Oscar and Hazard all joined this summer to add to Malouda, Lampard, Mikel and Ramires.
I think he will be a good signing and will give us something we lack. For the price and a not incredibly inflated wage he will be a good buy.
Phil McNulty @philmcnulty
I wonder if he'll be cover for Baines or put out on the wing... :/
