I wonder if Berbatov feels like he owes Jol one for the way he forced his move to United from Spurs, the obvious question remains though if Berbatov does go to Fulham why the fudge did we not work it into a deal to bring Dembele the other way? :(

If that's the case, most of any fee will most likely make it's way into Berbatov's wallet to make up for the wage cut.

Yeah, imagine there'll be a decent signing on fee especially if the £4m transfer fee over 2 years is agreed. Fantastic signing if it goes through. Just need Richardson and another 1 or 2 in.

Surely things aren't that bad at Fulham? :p

How's he treated him? Other players have played ahead of him because Fergie obviously believes the side are better without him. That's part and parcel of football.

I don't understand this whole thing either, there are quite a lot of reasons that point to why Berbatov hasn't been in the frame.

Well we're most likely loaning out our only backup left back so Richardson to cover there and left wing would be nice, english too. Our two left wingers are both U21. I quite rate Richardson on his day too. Especially for £2m.

Joe Cole - free to a good home. Perfect replacement for Dembele if you ask me.

He's basically completely ignored him and more or less refused to play him - far from normal.

He's said many times how he thinks he's a great player and wants him to stay, but never plays him. Perhaps there's something he's done we don't know about...

It's very odd, to say the least. If he actually thinks Welbeck is better then perhaps he is going senile after all.

Still, it's not an issue now we've got van Persie... I just hope he runs around enough. :p

Yup, on the one hand he says he's brilliant, then he never plays him. The odd thing is that Man Utd took up the option to extend his contract... despite not playing him, while he's on over 100k a year wages. So even though Fergie all but refuses to play him they kept him for an extra year at 5mil+ a year wages, to get a 4mil transfer fee when they could have just released him ages ago let him play, got no transfer fee but saved more than that in wages.

Was bizarre, I wonder if quite like RVP he wanted to stay in the EPL to prove a point rather than go elsewhere. My guess is there isn't much more he'd like to do than have a huge scoring season and score a few or take points off Utd this season. Great player though and glad he's still in the league.

It's not as black and white as to who's the better player, it's who works best in the formation/system/style of play Fergie wants the team to play and fact of the matter is Berbatov & Rooney didn't work

And one being a young, developing promising striker and the other being a striker in the latter years of his career.

Murmurings coming out of Portugal that Moutinho is very close to signing for Spurs. Would have originally had him instead of Dembele but not in addition to, very happy with Dembele but the money could be spent elsewhere instead of Moutinho.

I think AVB has been pushing Levy for this one as he has previously worked with him. With a midfield 3 of Demble, Sandro and Moutinho while good on paper and will keep possession for fun, there is hardly a goal to be had amongst them, we would have only Bale and Ade to supply the goals, not good.

Even then, and even assuming Welbeck was actually better - why was Fergie so keen to keep on Berbatov? Was he too ashamed to admit he signed a £32m striker that simply hasn't worked out/was never going to fit his system?

I think the whole situation is more than a little bit strange.

“@SkySports: Sky Sports understands Stoke have tabled a £4million bid for Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam. We'll bring you more shortly.”

I really hope he leaves.

Keen to keep him when? Last summer? tbf then he'd just come off the back of a 20 goal season and did end up prove a useful addition to the squad during the Christmas period last season. We obviously took up the option to extend his contract back in March (IIRC) so they he didn't go for nothing this summer.

As far as I'm concerned the only thing that Fergie's maybe done badly is completely ignore Berbatov still being a member of the squad (like when he listed the strikers at our disposal a few weeks back, that was a tad disrespectful)

Berbatov story now on Sky Sports, too:

Juventus and Fiorentina have confirmed Dimitar Berbatov has rejected moves to the club amid reports he is poised to join Fulham.

Fiorentina were in pole position to land Berbatov after agreeing a deal with Manchester United earlier on Wednesday.

The Bulgarian flew out to Italy for talks and a medical at Fiorentina but failed to turn up at Florence after Juventus hijacked the move for Berbatov.

However, in another twist Berbatov has snubbed a switch to Italian champions after an apparent last-minute move by Fulham.

Fiorentina have issused a withering statement hitting out Berbatov's conduct following his snub to the Viola.

"ACF Fiorentina announce that the transfer for Dimitar Berbatov definitively collapsed after an agreement with Manchester United had been concluded (with shared exchange of contracts, the first instalment paid and the financial guarantees for the second instalment ratified) and after reaching a verbal agreement with the player over his contract," read a club statement.
