and Scott Sinclair knows what he is letting himself in for..dont forget he was a Chelsea player for 5 seasons (?) and most of the time was on loan.

I imagine Sinclairs 'celebrity' girlfriend is pushing him into the deal after saying Wales was boring, can't see Manchester being any better mind

I am of the opionion that none of the signings so far have been AVB's. We were in for Verts and Sig long before AVB was mentioned, and Dembele strikes me as a Levy signing. We have also been scouting Remy for at least 12 months, Levy is basically deciding the transfer policy for ins and OUTS.

Dawson won't be sold because of Kaboul's persistent knee problems, but in anycase he couldnt be more unsuited to AVB's high line. It's up to VDV and for family reasons if VDV is sold, AVB by all accounts wants to keep him but it seems VDV is open to the move. He is also 29 with dodgy hamstrings with not long left on his contract, so it makes sense to sell him especially when an offer of 16M has been placed.

AVB showed nothing at Chelsea, so wouldn't expect that much from him however...

Huddlestone's move to Stoke was apparently comprimised due to the fee because their medical team found a chronic ankle problem, even if a player is top class, if they can't play they aren't any good and Huddlestone is one dimensional.. as I've said about Hernandez and a dozen others, when there are players out there who are excellent in every aspect of their game, keeping a guy who can do one thing isn't a particularly good idea. Huddlestone is immensely replaceable, hasn't been fit, and isn't particularly good. Of course Stoke decided that Ba's knee couldn't handle premiership football either ;)

Dawson, other than an injury prone player, isn't the best CB around and might simply want to leave for one reason or another. VDV's wife lives in Germany, he wants to be within banging range, can you blame him? Ultimately career's good, hot wife is better, he wants to live in Germany.

Also its not rare to not play someone you are trying to offload, especially if they have a dodgy ankle and you don't want it aggrevated before a medical.

spurs want £15m for VDV. anything over £10m, i'd sell him.

dawson, anything close to £10m, sell him.

seriously, give the new signings a chance. both had injury problems last season, both are nearly 30.

i'm now starting to think VDV's 2 previous starts were a test to see whether AVB wanted to keep him.

i adore both these players but i adore the club more and if these 2 being sold improves us over time, i'm all for it.

Why are Dawson and Thud so cruelly underrated on here?

Dawson was the rock in our ever changing defence when we qualified in for the CL. He had numerous different partners and full backs but marshalled so well that Gomes was able to settle and we conceded very few goals.

At the same time, Thud had a superb season. He freed Modric by taking the ball of the defence and allowed Modric to operate higher up the pitch.

For £10m who can spurs replace Dawson with? I would put him in the top 10 defenders in the PL and given that £10m doesnt buy you much, why would you swap such a proven performer for someone else? Added to this, we dont need young defenders (we have Kaboul, Vertonghen and Caulker), so we cant go really go and try and find a young gem with that £10m. You end up with an equation of Gallas and £10m cash or Dawson. I would prefer Dawson. We have sold lots recently, we have cut the wage bill and we need to build.

One could draw a similarity with Pav- why did we sell him in January? We were crying out for striking options at the end of last season but we took the cash. Given that we were 1 point off the CL spots, that seems like a terrible decision. Now we have a very old Gallas as occupying a fit again Dawson's place...

Then you look at Thud and VdV. Who do spurs buy to replace them? There are not that many players we have access to; almost certainly no one as good as them for the same price.

You end up in the Arsenal position of selling quality players and failing to find replacements and finally seeing a squad of dross held together by an excellent manager (aside from purchases).

£20m is not that useful to Spurs. We have money- we dont have the players.

Dawson is cack and although Huddlestone is big he's not strong enough and his passing game isn't good enough to make up for the rest of his shortcomings, especially his fitness.

It's easy to replace Huddlestone. Darren Anderton could do that now ;)

I agree with you re: VdV.

and berbatov at Fulham? I always thought of him as a luxury player..a team like united could accomodate him..will fulham be able to do the same?

quite the opposite. united wouldn't/couldn't accomodate him. it seems they preferred welbecks style of running around like he's on the school playground.

if berbatov can notch up the same kind of partnership he did with keane for spurs, you've got yourself a ruddy bargain there.

he treated jol/spurs like crap to force the move to united through and i'd still have had him back! £4m? that's potentially the best transfer of the window. united paid over £30m for him almost 4 yrs ago to the day.

SSN reporting that Fulham have confirmed Sunderlands interest in Dempsey!

He went on loan (again) this season. I'm getting the feeling Chelsea don't really want him.

Yeah I know, that's what I mean. Just seems stupid to go along with the other 3 or 4 players they've bought lately.

For £10m who can spurs replace Dawson with?

we don't need to replace him. i can't see him going now with kabouls injury but we have vert, gallas and caulker at CB. £10m for dawson, who obviously doesn't fit into AVB's plans could be £10m put towards moutinho or damiao. that's the way i'm looking at it. heck, play livermore at cb if required. £10m for a player who is nearly 30 and spent all last season injured. ok he's great at times but he's also woeful at times too but his attitude is top notch.

huddlestone and VDV, we don't need to replace them, they're covered with sig and dembele, sandro, parker etc.

i would rather it was jenas and bentley going, don't get me wrong but with the money we could gather from these transfers, we could get remy, willian, or even damiao and moutinho!

I would love to see the real reason why SAF signed berba. I still think it was to stick a finger up at City. Probably the most expense **** u in premiership history and made absolutely no difference to how the balance of power shifted at the top.

£27 million loss on Berba. Wow.

If you ignore the four seasons at OT (and the fact he is now well over 30)
Goodbye Berbatov. :(

Have no idea why SAF /Gill didnt try and force Dembele in the opposite direction as part of the deal (especially if Utd were really after him in some way)

I suppose the player might not have wanted to leave London (not sure if he has a settled family or not), still disappointing though

Some of these posts on Berbatov are absolutely madness and hilarious.

It didn't work out, last seasons his lack of inclusion was to a certain extent understandable, he wasn't going to be in the picture for the future but Hernandez and Welbeck are so rightfully or wrongfully in peoples opinions he wasn't involved.

For all of his class, skill and play he didn't really strike up a partnership at the club with Rooney, nor did he score across a consistent run of games with 1-2 here, he had big scoring matches where he'd turn up and score 3 or 5.

In 2010/11 he scored 3 vs Liverpool in September he then didn't score again until he scored five against Blackburn in November(ish, I think). That's 8 of his 20 goal season, he then scored a hat trick against Wigan in December from what I remember which is 11 of them - I can't find a list of goals vs who and how many etc, those are just from memory.

In the season where he scored 20 in the league he got 1 in other competitions, it isn't surprising that at 30 years of age the future was then started to look towards.

He's a classy player and was one of my favourite to watch, but it just didn't work out at the club. He hasn't been treated like a dog by Fergie as many would have you believe, when you think about it it's quite easy to see why he hasn't been played too much.

We will need to replace Dawson though- how long can Gallas play for? He is cack already! It would be massively shortsighted for us to play Livermore at CB- we have 5 CBs already to end up with none available is absurd. Gilly I think he is awesome Dawson and not cack :P

We definitely would need to replace Huddlestone and VDV.

Sig is not a creative midfielder, he just seems to attack the box (which is excellent and not to be sniffed at). Dembele is creative, but who is the backup? What a lovely option to have VdV to come on for either Dembele or Sig to turn a game. I thought he was superb against Newcastle and West Brom.

On Thud- his argument is the weakest of the three but without another player definitely coming into creative CM, he should not be sold; he is on peanuts wages and would yield relatively small amounts of cash.

Why on earth should we be thinking of these when we have Bentley, Dos Santos, Jenas, Bhgamo and Gomes (who I like but is clearly never playing for us again) on our books?

As a lifelong Swans supporter, I'd liken Sinclair to that of Walcott.

Excellent running with the ball, and can score the odd goal but also extremely frustrating in equal measure. I wish him luck for the future, but don't forget he goes out with Rosie Webster (Helen Flanagan), so a Manchester base suits him down to the ground (as does the epic wage he'll get).

Reported deal is £6.2M with add-ons, worth approx. 8M.

Also,

Any news down your end about about the Ashley Westwood transfer?
