In the publishing world, from my experience, it's very much not the norm and is always checked through using a find and replace to make sure it's only single spaces after full stops.

I'm actually surprised the game works at all given the GFWL requirement. I'm sure it was worth the purchase given the new version being out soon though
that's what's actually got me interested - not sure if the OP will raise his head in here again but I'm curious about that. is there even still a player base online??
maybe it's straight forward enough - did GFWL not get a reprieve?

Someone linked to an article about creating an offline profile. I'm not sure if the coop mode still works though? Could well require a piracy-based solution in order to get full functionality back (as often happens with defunct DRM).
