I guess the crane ship has some hellish propullsion to counteract the force of trying to right the ship. Either that or a big anchor
Take a look at the Sapiem 7000, absolute monster. Not that I can see them ever actually leasing it

Not much good when the Costa Concordia weights over 114,000 tons........Saipem 7000
Formerly named the Micoperi 7000, this crane barge has two cranes at the bow each capable of lifting 7,000 tonnes, or 15,000 together.

I bet this never gets to trial, I think he'll "top" himself.
Possible. Hes already demonstrated he has no problem taking the cowards way out.
It has probably been mentioned several times but..after looking again at the images I can't help but wonder, why is the hole on the side above the water? Surely that side should have been the side to sink as that was where all the water was going in... Unless there is an even bigger hole on the other side that they have yet to find..

Can't believe the Captain jumped ship. Fair enough, everyone would be scared in that situation but you need to have responsibility in such an important job..such a selfish coward.
Free Surface effect. This destabilises vessel by reducing its inherent stability. The reason Herald of Free Enterprise rolled over with no hull damage, and a relatively small amount of water entering through the open bow doors. Also the reason that this cruise ship rolled over. It can be quite easily calculated.
So you thought she was on the small side:
