Almost Titanic 2

Thats just outright criminal. Whoever gave the order to the staff to tell the passengers that should be convicted for manslaughter.

Thoughts?

Is there a thread on this?

And I suppose telling them the truth (the ship is taking on water) would have gone down better? have you seen Titanic? If they had been honest the death toll would have been much higher from the mass panic/hysteria alone.

I think lying that everything is fine then slowly yet safely starting to get people off worked out better.

Tell that to the ghosts of the elderly passengers trapped in their cabins when the ship rolled over.
They should have all been called to their muster stations as soon as it was known that there was massive flooding of the machinery space, not instructed to go to their cabins or lounges. This is the worst place to be if the ship is going down.
The order to abandon ship should have been given before the vessel rolled over. In fact it was NEVER given.
The captain and the bridge officers were in denial. They lied to the coastguard about the gravity of the situation, telling them that there was only a power failure, when they knew full well that the ship had struck rocks at speed.

The behaviour of the command of the Costa Concordia is indefensible

Why do you think were they so reluctant to give the call to abandon ship?

The seas were calm, they were near a port. Ideal conditions I would have thought. Even if the event proved to be nothing, I doubt the passengers would complain that much.

They were reluctant to abandon because they were in denial. How could this possibly happen to them? It can't be happening, therefore they reacted to the situation as they hoped it would be, rather than the true perilous situation.

If they all get £100k I'm booking on the next one. I'd take £100k to be involved in a ship accident where I was uninjured! That seems like a completley ridiculous and unfounded demand to me.

Very unfounded, but I bet a few that fight for it will get it.

*looks into booking a cruise*

I was watching a program by Discovery Channel on the Costa Concordia disaster and the experts said it was mere chance the vessel got blown back to shore.

Had it not have done it would have sunk in 300m water. Which is a scary thought as it would have probably capsized a lot sooner without the benefit of the coastal ridge to rest on.

They were very, Very lucky! The ship really could have gone down "With all Hands" within minutes, within sight of the shore!

I am not really a big fan of modern cruise ships! Too big, Too many people! Titanic was actually a very safe ship. Had she had the full compliment of lifeboats that the designers had intended it is quite possible that there would have been NO casualties back in 1912! So Sad! :(

This is set to be recovered very soon!

It was originally planned that the vessel would be removed from Giglio by the spring of 2013. However, work is now expected to be complete "by the end of summer".
If by very soon you mean another 8 months!

Definitely looking forward to seeing the documentary following the salvage operation. They could make a second of the scrapping operation.
