Almost Titanic 2

Will they scrap or just refit?
Scrap it. The underwater side will be completely mullered by now, plus all the interior fittings being ruined by being underwater for a year. The only reason they're not cutting it up where it is is the environmental impact of all the rotting food etc still on board.

I watched the program last night of the days before the ship sank and the actually sinking, with video footage of people on board etc.

And i got to say i'm very surprised only 32 perished. The complete lack of knowledge, denial, lack of decison making etc etc of the captain and all crew on board, its a wonder more people never died.

This is why I get annoyed when people describe this as a "Disaster" or a "Tragedy". Whilst it was certainly a personal tragedy for the people who died, For everybody else it was a bleeding miracle!

This was a complete FUBAR and yet over 99% of the people involved survived!

Incredible really!

Yeah especially considering there was over 4000 people on board, the vast size of the ship and interior it surprises me more people never got lost, if the captain would have reacted sooner and closed the water tight doors in the engine room i don't believe the ship would have taken on so much water and capsized like it did.

A complete and utter bafoon to be honest !

Well, it has been proven he was way off its usual course, but as of yet the reason why hasn't been proven since he hasn't stood trial.

It was his mistake though for allowing the ship to come off course for any reason especially for it to go that close to island !

I imagine the water damage in the submerged areas must be quite extensive after all this time. I wonder how long it will take them to get it back into working order.

Not going back into service it's salvage

Spoke to a couple of guys working on this albeit on the acc barge 50/50 whether she splits when they lift

Going to take 10-12 hours.

A tragedy for those who lost those lives (and even more so for the families of those with bodies still trapped inside) but an amazing feat. of Engineering to recover the ship in one whole piece.
