Altered Carbon

While the narrative is true to Morgan’s literature, it feels a little uncomfortable watching a character with Japanese heritage become “trapped” in the body of a white man.

A man who is also half slavic and trained to jump from one body to another. Sounds like a reviewer bias showing there, and maybe someone unfamiliar with the source material. It won't be the first time in recent history that reviewers have been very out of step with the viewers opinions, so I think I'll have to see it myself before making a judgement.

Very unfamiliar I would suggest. The book even references this matter (although not with the current PC / race identity mindset). Negative or mixed reviews don't bother me in the slightest (I haven't read them), I'll make my own mind up first.

While I'll admit that sometimes this is just down to conflicting agendas (some reviewers seem to think woke=good, and other that PC=bad: neither are true) the main reason is that critics can tell bad from good, but most of the viewing public can't.

Problem is reviewers (at least professional ones) tend to be very aware of the theoretical side of it all - sometimes the hard by the book theory doesn't actually make a pleasing end result for the vast majority of viewers even though academically it might be a masterpiece of execution.

8am today supposedly - I just got up to check now.

EDIT: Yup listing episodes now on Netflix.

I like the intro - Ouroboros twisted into the infinity symbol is a kind of neat touch.

First episode visually impressive, fairly interesting but not sure yet if its good or overdone - its kind of pushing the whole old story new skin concept a bit far.

Watched the first 3. Seems pretty decent. They’ve made some plot changes, not for the better. I don’t think the actress they cast for Miriam Bancroft is right compared to the book. There are some good visuals and some ropey ones. The tac-marines look pretty cool with their armour.

I’m also not sure how much sense it will make to people who haven’t read the book or to a more ‘general’ audience (I don’t mean that in a patronising way).

Will definitely watch the rest anyway.

This looks absolutely amazing (even 1080). Blend of Ghost in the Shell and Bladerunner.

Seems decent, intriguing and has my attention to watch more.

Watched the first episode tonight.

I felt like it didn't flow well at all, the pacing was rushed and it was not very well polished in terms of story telling. It felt off in its delivery.

If I wasn't to see another episode again, it wouldn't bother me, which is the first time I've said that about a Netflix series that I've watched.

Is it me or do they make several quite fundamental errors when it comes to religion? not sure if its intentional or not as I'm not familiar with the source material - at one point I'm pretty sure one guy said the Christian and Islamic God was different for instance.

Unless I've completely missed the point. Most people are dead and existing as AI?

Not really immortality. I mean it's not much different than scanning my brain and putting it into a chatbot

I enjoyed it, just finished watching. 4k and Dolby Vision on my LG C7 so looked fantastic.

Really liked the world building/mythology and the main character but would say it became a bit convoluted, has a few pacing issues and less likeable/interesting characters. Probably need to watch again at some point to get my head around some of the twists and side stories as did find myself losing track but its very ambitious and looks fantastic and kept me entertained throughout despite the slower moments.

7/10.
