am i going to kill myself?

I've seen some downright stupid comments made on this forum, but a car is a fake because it isn't the top model? Especially from someone who owns a VTR rather than a VTS.

Because Subaru make a faster model, suddenly the Sport is a fake? I'm not saying its the fastest car about, I'm not saying it's the most wonderful car ever made, and I'm certainly not saying its worth £4k in insurance, as imo, it really isn't, if I couldn't have found the quote I did, I sure as hell wouldn't have bought mine and paid the £3k other people were quoting. But calling it fake is quite honestly ridiculous.

Someone best till WillGill his is fake, he didn't buy a 22B. And Steve, his isn't a CSL.

(Oh and mine must be fake, seems to have 8 valves more than all the others..)

Yes because the vts is rubbish on the motorway, that is the only reason i dont have one insurance would still have been 1.3k only £250 more than i am paying now, what i meant by the fake comment was the only reason he has a sport is because he could not afford a turbo, and so to pay 3.5k on insurance imo is stupid so he can have a much much lesser car.

your point = void when imprezas only redeeming point is their speed. The interior etc is awful....so take away the turbo and you're left with a car with an engine that wouldnt have much power to start with if it was fwd...then add in the transmission losses of 4WD and you've got aprox FAbhp at the wheels.....in a car with a crap interior, that you have to pay a stupid amount of insurance on and not have the performance to collerate with that insurance, and pay over the odds to buy because of the "image".

That is all IMO of course, so no disrespect to any owners, i'm just putting forward why i think the "fake" tag of the scooby is better earned than the "fake" tag of the saxo vtr etc.

Tom.

Whilst I don't agree with his choice of wording, I think his point, which I explained, was clear.

And valid.

We go round in circles, I've had to defend my choice of car before, and I've made it clear why for me it was the best choice. I just find being told my car is a fake, tbh, insulting.

The Impreza Sport is perfectly capable model on its own, it doesn't need to be a fake anything. Anyone who's actually owned both a Sport and a Turbo will agree.

right lets get a few things straight here...

8v.. i dont think so... it's 16v (wow  )
114bhp.. phase 1 models, 123bhp = standard phase 2's, mine so far has made 130, and 138bhp on powerstation rollers with a manifold (for the 138 run) and backbox. (not saying its god's honest truth of course theyre just rollers)

fake? that's the same as saying a mitsubishi galant 2.0 is a "fake" Evo - christ people get a life, just because something isn't the top model doesn't mean it's fake.

yes i pay and have paid over the odds on insurance, but OH WELL, I'd much rather pay over the odds, then end up with a saxo, clio, fiesta (or any ford for that matter) what car could you get at 17, which you could look at, think it looks great, sounds great, and makes you proud to be the owner, no hatchback is offering me that, so in a way yes it is image, but who cares? i love driving it, that's all that matters.
interior? please, what's better than some comfy supporting bucket seats? sod the rest, could be bright blue and i would notice, because i'm looking through the windscreen, not at the dash !

so seeing as i'm wasting so much money what would you lot spend it on? baring in mind i have a 32" plasma screen in my room, with my fairly decent pc, a great quality sound system, comfy bed.. what else could i want? i dont want to move out, i dont want to buy something else, because there is nothing else, it really is that simple....

And herby lies the problem, you are full of yourself. You think because you have a Subaru badge, bucket seats and a bit of a burble from the exhaust you are automatically better than everyone else. I could list 30 hatchbacks that I would rather own than an Impreza Sport. I'm not knocking your car choice, just your attitude, I think this is what cymatty was getting at with the fake comment. I'm 18, pay a quarter of your insurance costs with only 1 years no claims, it's fun to drive and although it isn't fast by any stretch of the imagination it's still quicker than an Impreza Sport.

What that has in relation to this thread I don't know but just to let you know I'm very pleased for you.

A grip.

Maybe I should clarify my point, it should help others....

if I was spending 350 quid a month on insurance, id be getting something obscenely powerful, not a car that just about gets to 60 this side of 9 seconds. (before I get screamed at for owning a 1.7 puma 'hairdresser express' yes, it isnt much faster, but, its a dam sight cheaper to insure, I went for this car partially because I realise I need to actually leave home this side of 30 :p

Personally, If I was you, id do whatever I wanted with the money, but by the sounds of things you have a lot of disposable income, so id put a lot into savings, and sort out a house deposit

This is the single most irritating reply we get in threads like this. OMG IF YOU DARE CRITICISE YOU MUST BE JEALOUS.

He is buying an Impreza not a DB9. I doubt most of the opinions here are motivated by jealousy.

eh eh calm down, If he wants to pay silly insurance money, let him. It's his wallet he is denting.

The reason why I pay over the odds for my insurance is because I wanted something a bit nippy, yep it's got a reputation but looking at mine I doubt you'd say chav.......it's bog standard. :p

I plan to chop my Saxo in after 2 years and get a C2 VTS.

You can make the same argument about a lot of cars though really...

Civic Type-S vs Civic Type-R
Focus Ghia vs Focus ST/RS
Saxo VTS vs Saxo VTR
Mini vs Mini Cooper S
Skyline GTS/GTT vs Skyline GTR

..and so on.

Just because there are slower/cheaper derivatives of various cars does not make them "fake" really, and as much as Subarus don't really do anything for me - each has their own merits I'm sure (even if the merits are simply that one model costs a lot less than another).

Paying £350 a month for insurance is ridiculous though. That price is meant to be a deterrent really, and in most cases it works :) I insured my R33 GTR in my Dads name with me as named driver - an old trick which is a risky one when the named driver is actually the one who drives it most, but it did mean the insurance premium was just sky high instead of "in space".

That said, from reading some of the responses it does sound like the OP cares more about how others perceive him than his own wallet. Still, it's his money, etc.

But for every 18/yo driving a Subaru of any type, theres 1078 driving Saxo's

And there's one driving Triumphs. Me. :D

Your point?

I like a clean Saxo, as much as a clean Impreza and at the end of the day it's down to your personal choice, if that's what each desired and they got, good on em!

I'd rather drive a car I liked, that others hated, rather than something I didn't enjoy yet others appreciated.

:)

as already stated earlier in the thread the impreza's only real merit is its speed in turbo form, the interiors are terrrable, there not comfy and the paint is thinner than bacofoil, all the cars you mentioned are good cars in standard form, if ferrari sold the F40 with a 900cc cinq engine in it would be crap for the same reason.
