There are pro's and cons of both routes. Which route is right depends on the individual obviously :)

quite, for some people (like myself) I couldnt stand the lack of practical work at university, and got into work, for me, its been the best, as ive managed to really channel my enthusiasm, and should have quite a tidy career from it all... its all about the person, the time, the place, the workplace, etc

As a general rule in later life the ones that will be payed the most will have been to uni or further education, short term gain and all that lot, fox is right imho :)

Anyways well Off topic!

I disagree

There was that kid who passed his test on his 17th birthday in an F40, then went onto have an F50 as his first car. There was Wayne Rooney who paid over £200,000 a year for his fleet of cars when he was young too.

If they can pay huge amounts to insure nice cars, than anyone who can afford it can.

I never went to uni and earn a mint at 24 :D

Why's everyone being so rude and pesimistic, the lads done well for himself he's 18 and on 24k a year or whatever, thats a lot more than a uni graduate I bet all the people slagging him for spending his money on a nice motor are all flipping loser uni grads who are on about 20k a year and just jealous.

When your 19 and you've got 2 years ncb I imagine it would be not much more than your paying now on your sport *although that is a lot :p

Erm your wrong I haven't been to uni but I have trodden the path of Subaru Imprea Turbo ownership and I know the pitfalls and what the insurance guidelines are for a car like that.

edit: his success in life is not measured by how much he earns.

Most of them won't quote online for that age bracket on performance cars but what Merlin and Conanius is true, at 17 I was insured on an F360, at 19 I was insured in my own name on my VX220T (it was £5k but still that was with no NCD) and I'm now insured in my own name on the DB9 and my own F430.

The trouble with the Scoob is the insurance is inflated, I had a new STI on order when I was 19, in the end I found there were far quicker/fun cars which could be insured for a fair bit less than the STI, the insurance is much higher than it should be, presumably due to the fact so many of the older models are now going cheap. This was the exact reason I bought the VX220T, far more fun and unique than the subaru to drive, *but* I will say on to cover my own back, I'd been racing / driving supercars since I'd passed my test.

All I would say is think hard about it, the choice for me came down to this : "I'm spending a lot on insurance, I'm willing to spend it but I want to buy the most fun/interesting car I can". That car for you may be the Scoob, but I would advise at least considering other options.

that's understandable, but there isn't much more choice I have.
I need the car for work, so it has to be sizeable. I want it be be quick, good looking (yes i love how scoobys look), has to be a recognisable car that people will say "nice car" to (yes I am that vein!), and most importantly I have to really like the car... so what kind of choices do I have?

200SX route? They big enough?

If you have the money, go for it :)

Phoning might be the best course of action, or going through online quotes on every single insurance company on the motors sticky.
