Am I the only one getting more Knackered as I get older?

Used to pull all nighters in 30's playing WOW. Now mid-50's and midnight is probably my max! Getting up before 7am is hard!

We had this discussion at work recently and I was shocked that most of the people were in bed by 10pm, some by 9pm including those in their 20s and 30s.

My problem is i dont even get in from work until 8pm most days and then have tea to cook and eat and then I actually may want to do something in the evening before bed.

But I agree with the OP, i cant stay up even when out like I could when I was young.

In my early 20s i used to go clubbing from Tuesday night onwards and get in between 2am and 3am and then up at 7am for work every day and it wasnt a problem.

I'm 30 and on a week day I'm basically asleep by 11. I could stay up later, but my wife goes to bed and then I subconsciously start winding down anyway. Last night I could barely keep my eyes open.

Depends if I drink coffee or not and how much during the day. Basically, I won't be able to fall asleep until 8 hours after I've had my last one so usually have a 3pm cut off.

I get knackered but that's because my sleep pattern is a bit messed up, I can nap during the day from 5mins to 30mins.

I know what your saying though, as my gran used to say, "Old age doesn't come alone".

I am 37 now, but from 34 onwards I started to have this problem where I would doze off sitting on the sofa, or get really tired whilst on the motorway. I would go to bed and fall asleep instantly and wake up on time as usual. I also have a very bad snoring problem! Anyway it got to the point where the Mrs couldn't stand it no more.
Went to the GP and it turns out I have OSA (obstructive sleep apnoea). After about a year waiting for the NHS I finally got given a CPAP machine.

Before although I could be in bed for 8-9 hours I was hardly actually getting any deep sleep. Now with the CPAP machine I am finally getting a good nights sleep, my mi fit band is also showing I am getting decent deep sleep now. No more dozing off in front of the computer in the office or whilst driving on the motorway. I can actually tell now when I am getting a decent nights sleep.

Also I think the lack of exercise didn't help, compared to my 20s where I was regularly playing football, badminton etc. In my 30s I hardly did any exercise. However since start of this year I have started cycling to work, this I think has also had a positive impact on my overall energy levels.

Interesting...

My watch says I get REM sleep but not deep sleep.

I don't feel tired during the day though, only at night.

I did used to wake up occasionally gasping for breath where it felt like my body must have stopped breathing whilst I was asleep, but that hasn't happened for ages.

Try this, will tell you if you suffer from OSA. The GPs use the same test to diagnose the condition.

As above, I would definitely get tested for sleep apnoea. Lots of people think they can't possibly have it but it's common even in younger people who aren't overweight.

No naps for me and am pretty much able to go bed and get up when I like. I do sleep about for about 8-9 hours a day on average though and always have. One of the reasons why I've never had kids!

I start to drift off by 11pm a lot now, I'm in my mid 30s. I do work till quite late though during the week and its quite tiring work I do, but I used to easily stay up to 12-1am most nights. I find It easier getting up earlier in the morning though, which is a bonus.

I’m 43 and have a pretty physical job. I don’t necessarily get tired but I do feel the fatigue setting at times. I also have a fair number of muscular aches and pains but c’est la vie. Sleep is a problem though as I often don’t fall asleep till 11.30 and wake at 5 the next morning.

Could be worse though. I could be dead!

11 is fine t 30, its the ones at work who say they are in bed by 10 at the latest, one of them who is 32 says she is in bed by 9pm.
