Amazon 1 Click Rant

Being able to order on a Friday night and have it come Saturday and order on a Sunday and have it come Monday makes Prime very much worth it, as said before up to 4 people can use one Prime account, it's hardly a lot for a year £10 each.

Even better if they fail to deliver the next day you can complain and more often than not they extend your membership a month, I've had almost a free year out of them so far due to couriers letting them down.

:o

A free month of what then?

Prime, every time they fail to deliver next day I complain, then give me an extra month of Prime, my membership was supposed to run out in Feb, it's been extended till December so far, yes couriers in my area can be pretty bad.

I almost wish I could do that. Shame the couriers in my area are actually pretty realiable. The only time they let me down was during the winter when there were heavy blizzards and a lot of transport was halted. I didn't bother complaining though, since it wasn't Amazons fault there was such terrible weather.

What I was getting at is, you are paying but having late deliveries and getting a free month of more late deliveries. So what are you paying for and what are you getting free?

I think it's bloody ridiculous that for their 1 click service they automatically set your delivery preference to first class. And there isn't even an option to change this default. Hence, 1 click delivery is pointless for me as I only ever use next day or super saver.

Rant over.

:p

There's an option on my 1-click settings for 1st class or next day as default. Have you actually checked your 1-click settings? I don't have prime so it's probably not offered.

Andi.

I'm with you. I always choose the slowest/cheapest delivery option with everything. I've never got into being stressed that something hasn't turned up on the exact day that I think it will. And I've never been stressed about what time post turns up. I think that there are people that would be happy if they had something delivered at 08:30 but would moan their head off if it had turned up at 16:00 the day before.
I always select super saver delivery and 99% of the time, it arrives next-day or in 48hrs. Perhaps something to do with a massive distribution centre down the road from me.. Perhaps magic.

I fail to see how prime is worth it. Yes it's nice to have stuff the next day but it wasn't that long ago before a next day service was something only a 1st class stamp could do. £50 a year for something you can have for £0 a year (by that I mean simple delivery, you get it delivered to you) seems a bit silly to me. If you really want it tomorrow why didn't you just order it last week?

The point about prime for me is that I can plan deliveries for the days I'm going to be in. We buy a lot of stuff from Amazon; if we were to use any of the non-prime options we would be endlessly traipsing over to the delivery firms' depots to get our failed-to-deliver packages. And yes, if prime fails, you end up getting your service extended for free

I don't think i've got a distribution center anywhere near me and everything i've ordered from Amazon themselves (as opposed to marketplace sellers) has arrived next day or the day after on super saver.

Don't see the value in Prime when the free delivery option seems to be just as quick 90% of the time for me :p

Yeah I often get free/cheap deliveries that turn up next day. I sometimes think companies just try and create a service that isn't really much at all.

OT but it reminds me of when I switched internet providers;

"one last thing, would you like to keep your phone number?"

"not bothered. Don't use it for phone calls or even know the number to give out. Only use it for internet"

"oh........................ well it's easier/better for us for you to keep the same number"

so why ask then! If it was the rare occurrence that I'd be asking for a new number, surely I'd be the one asking.

They would probably have charged me for keeping it if I'd have said yes I need that number.

All they want is an extra few £ on top of whatever price has reeled you in.

Must admit the first class delivery option of 1 click has caught me out a few times, it's a pain!

It's done on purpose to catch you out and I hate that companies use these methods to extract money from people. It's the same as services that auto default to an automatic renewal. PS+, XBlive. Even RAC/AA will reduce your "total cost today" if you choose the auto-renewal feature just because all these companies know that a certain % will forget or not bother.
