Amazon Fire TV

Anyone have any issues with rewind & fast forward on xbmc/kodi using a harmony remote? Rewind just jumps back to the beginning of a show and fast forward jumps 15 minutes forward, works on the original remote (x2, x4 etc) but can't seem to get it sorted on the harmony ultimate, any ideas?

Ok being new to xbmc I have just realised rewind/ff is actually skipping through the chapters and left/right will advance in 30 second increments. So simply is there not a way to fast forward or rewind by x2, x4, x8 etc?

The Kodi wiki suggests that I could use a Harmony IR remote by attaching an IR reciever to the USB port on the Fire TV... :)

Nice, PC is left on anyway.

Does it force TV to 24HZ on XBMC like a bluray player etc would..?

No, there's no 24p on it. As Clovis mentioned 50 and 60hz are the only options and it has to be done manually and there's no way to have XBMC do it automatically like on other devices.

Having read the Kodi wiki I think your right. Using the FTV remote limits you to just those options by default.

As with most things in XBMC/Kodi though, I expect it can be changed.

Yeah that's what I was hoping for :( For now I have changed rewind/ff to just skip back/forward 30 seconds & a long press to skip chapters so will do for now!

The Nexus Player has half the power, half the RAM, no Ethernet and will cost more, so is a non starter really.

A Fire TV style box running proper vanilla Android TV would be brilliant.

Thanks for that - pulled the trigger on one last night.

I've already got NetFlix so tempted to keep that running and also keep APV.

Just a shame the APV doesn't support chromecasting

Other than the Nexus Player, which is still listed as "coming soon" are there any more proper Android TV boxes on the horizon? There are loads of Android based boxes, but they all appear to just run normal Android, and not the specific Android TV fork with the specific TV interface?

It looks like Google may have created a market, but by the time they actually turn up to the party Amazon is going to have stolen the show, eaten all the food, and made off with all the women :p

Does anyone have a link to the ADB software I need to go command line into the Amazon TV to install apps?

nm, found the FTV utility a couple of pages back in this thread.

That's a shame. I'm sure I could live with it though!

I have noticed going from a 32" Full HD TV to a 50" full HD, my Amazon TV now seems a bit jittery with playback whether that be via XBMC or through Netflix/Amazon Prime.

I have made sure my TV and AFT are outputting at the same resolution and refresh rate but that doesn't seem to help, if i watch Netflix or Amazon prime through my Smart App on my TV, they play fine, same when i connect to my NAS through the TV.

Really bugging me now as i seem to steer away from using it. :(

Ive noticed this also. Using the same apps such as plex or Amazon prime on the Samsung smart centre and the playback is much better than on the atv

Having searched this I think the answer may still be no, but does anyone know if you can Bluetooth the audio from Amazon Fire TV to a Bluetooth speaker/radio? It would be useful to run the Fire as a dedicated media centre and then play music throughout the various rooms in the house via Bluetooth.

Thanks

Hum, not something I've noticed but I've not really done a comparison. I'll compare against my ATV3 running PlexConnect and Xbox One running the official app tonight - see if I can see a difference as I'm usually pretty annoyed by that kind of thing.

I would say this is a firm no.

Nope - I think its just a little too big with the outer amazon cardboard packaging.
