Amazon Fire TV

This is the only part you need.

adbFire is a companion program for FireTV and Android XBMC & forks. It allows you to sideload XBMC (and other apps) without the bother of downloading the Android SDK and other tools. Additionally, it allows you to copy files to and from XBMC, backup XBMC, root the FireTV, mount USB drives and more.

Ignore the parts about root or mounting USB, neither of these are possible on current firmware but sideloading kodi is all you really need.

So, a mate told me all about this and how he put xmbc on it. Then i saw this thread. Fate? maybe! :)
Ok, questions, and apologies if some have been asked, but it is a long thread.
1. Streaming (wired) from my HP microserver should be fine?
2. Is there a definitive/recommended format to get my DVD/BD disks onto the server that the xmbc can stream and play? (i doubt it will do .iso files of BD's?)
3. Can it play TV that you wouldn't usually be able to get in the UK? I'm binning Sky due to extortionate prices. Just looking for alternatives really.

Thanks

All working now,got it all set up with my network and now plays films :)

How do i get my films on my nas to show up as a picture and not a letter description ?

What else do i need to install ?

You don't need to install anything else you just need to add your sources to the library with a scraper for films or tv. Sounds like you need to read a little more on Kodi.

Keep on getting this message and its starting to grind on me now !!!!

no jvm installation found, please install a 63-bit jdk
if you have already have a jdk installed,define a jave-home variable in computer-system properties-system settings-enviroment variables.

Not come across this issue at all! - java?
Heres your fix

Ended up factory resetting the FTV and started again, no problems this time.

Anyone used the Curzon home cinema? Just wondering what quality etc was like? There's a few good titles on there..

Right, from what i understand is this,i use the program abdfire to install pdk files to my fire, this i fully understand and have used it with my little knowledge,so...where do you get these pdk files from that are trustworthy.

They are apk files and it depends on what you want to install. Unfortunately the fire tv is locked down to only use the amazon app store and not the full google play store. You kind of need to know what you want to put on before you go hunting for apk's.

Sent you a trust message regarding help.

I noticed last night, running the AFTV through my amp I'm getting no surround channels on Dolby Digital soundtracks over HDMI. DTS is fine. Anyone else noticed this or know if there is a fix. This is output from KODI by the way.

Ok, so I'm using 3 of these and my Dad really liked it.

Where's the cheapest place I can get one for him?

EDIT: Ha, took me a while write my post (as long as it was) so didn't notice Vimes post. Job done.

EDIT2: Not sure if you always get this (you'd think I'd know having 3 already) but you get £2 app store credit as well at the moment. Definitely worth spending it on AirPlay/DLNA Receiver Pro which I'd argue works better than ATV3 native airplay - which was always a royal pain in the backside for me.

Awesome just requested my refund for the difference, paid the £79 at the beginning of the week.

Excellent :)

Did you set-up Kodi with it already and did it go ok...?

When yours arrived did it have a later firmware which prevents rooting...?
