Amazon Fire TV

Thanks. I've used a lot of the guides on that site but hadn't come across that one.

I've had a play around with the addon it uses in the past but removed it because there didn't appear to be any way to hide/disable the adult content.

All up and running with TVMC, streaming all my movies from server I have, also loads of channels via navi x etc from my Amazon fire stick. Can't fault it.

I followed a guide to stick Kodi onto a Fire Stick.

Is there any way to update the app icon to show a Kodi icon instead of the icon of whatever sacrificial app I used?

Been thinking of getting a Firestick together with a Roku 3.

I have a NowTV sub so the Roku takes care of that but would use the Firestick for Prime.

I have Plex server running on a PC under the stairs. Is it worth getting a Firestick and putting Kodi on it? I've seen a few sticks for sale on the auction site with Kodi pre-installed for more money than a new one. If it's not too difficult and Kodi will work with my Plex server I could probably do it myself.

Errrrm if you run a plex server why not install plex, it's on the amazon app store. For the record yes Kodi is a doddle to install.

Agreed

1 - Kodi is very simple to install no issues at all, just follow the guide on TVADDONs website

2 - Why Kodi if you have Plex? Unless you're planning on moving away from Plex server?

For the record I've just installed Plex on my server and whilst it's a little slower than Kodi at navigating (on a Fire TV) I'm quite liking it.

Do I not have to install Kodi if I want to run other things like Genesis?

I started off with XBMC and Aeon Nox skin but it wasn't as easy to set up as Plex. But, I prefer the XBMC/Kodi look to Plex. I read online that a Plex server with a Kodi front end worked fine.

As it is, if I get another Roku, that has Plex on it anyway so could use that. Only reason to get the Stick is that I can't have Prime on the Roku. Just thought if I'm getting the stick maybe I could make more use of it than just watching Prime.

Just picked up a fire stick and loving kodi on it!

I use kodi on my media pic downstairs, what's the best way of playing my media via kodi upstairs? Media browser?

Cheers

Guys, when installing Kodi, can I attach an external 1TB drive to this and have everything diaplyed the same way a PC does, with fanart and all that?

Plus, can you install genesis on it?

Why don't you just add the MKV files to kodi and play them that way instead of plugging your drive in i just transfer my films across and kodi plays them even though there over 4 gig

Would you not just buy another fire stick, our Kodi on that to play your files?

It can passthru DD but not DTS sadly.

Really??

I have loads of files that have DTS soundtracks and they seem to play fine through my AMP and Fire TV... even shows DTS on the front display of my amp...

To de fair I did have to activate a setting in the Kodi audio settings at first as its not on by default..

I will test it again later and take some snaps..

This is why i got a NUC Amazon fire is great. But has its limits cannot do 24p or pass through DTS audio

It thought it did pass through and DTS audio

I know the 24fps issue that effects all android boxes is present. In fairness though, with it set to 60hz I cant see any judder. This is only on a quick play with the fireTV I bought my dad. Havent sat down and watched a complete film.

Well, it was my experience of it at least. I had it hooked up to my onkyo receiver, I configred kodi to passthru everything to the receiver audio wise. DD was fine (DD symbol appeared) DTS streams produced no sound.

My acer revo has no issues with DD/DTS/DTS-Master passtru. What setting did you have to enable?

More importantly though I do wish they enabled 24hz playback :(. For the life of me I can't understand why Amazon/Google/etc don't support it.
