Amazon Fire TV

Harmony Smart Control works with it because it supports Bluetooth. Also someone else was saying it was responding to their sky remote, so might be worth investigating!

OK, since no one else seemed to care I've had to try Limelight myself! :-)

Got mine last night and the first thing I did was sideboard it. It works amazingly! I'm actually able to play Watchdogs over WiFi with it! Girlfriend and I completed a episode of Wolf Among Us in bed while the PC streamed it from upstairs.

It's not perfect, limelight supports mouse emulation with a touch screen on other android device but we're screwed at the moment - so uPlay based games will likely require some intervention. Apart from that if you've got an Nvidia card then there's no reason not to get this installed!

Download the Limelight APK here (I used non root version) https://github.com/limelight-stream/limelight-android/releases

I'm interested in doing some more reading about limelight ever since I saw that video of the chap playing games on his Nexus tablet!

My one question really is what kind of games have you been playing through it and what is the lag like? I know this doesn't really matter much for things like RPG's etc but my main use for it would be when mates come round and we want to play Fifa in the living room instead of being huddled in study around a pc. Any chance you've tried Fifa? :)

Lag is acceptable for playing Watchdogs and Max Payne 3. The BIGGEST issue is the thumbstick deadzone as it doesn't appears there's any way to change this. I've not played the Fifa games for a good 10 years but unless you require find movement where the stick isn't touching the outer edges I'd imagine you'd find it working pretty well.

Of course, remember that Amazons returns policy is second to none ;)

Can you change dns on fire tv box for unblockUS/Netflix ?

ta

Yes, you can modify the DNS settings for both wireless and wired connections.

I'm going to be working on something hopefully dandy tonight. I've sideloaded XBMC, Epsxe and Andsmb. Im planning to mount an SMB share to my fire and have loads of Games and TV to play, in theory. Not sure if the SMB share will work, a lot of the apps for it seem to require root. This was my way around the external storage bit until i am able to root the newer firmwares.

Whether the share will mount, im not sure. Whether it will play movies and games over the network im not sure. But hopefully it may solve the small internal storage issue somewhat.

Very interested to see how this would work with Limelight. I need to replace my HTPC/NowTV combo in the lounge and this ticks all the boxes so far.

Any further user experience on Plex or Limelight on this, I would be most grateful.

Can somebody clear up for me what you cannot do regarding unrooted FTV and XBMC? as i was tempted buy one! :)

I followed the instructions linked to earlier in this thread to load XBMC on my FTV. I haven't worked out how I might transfer/edit an XML file if I wanted to use a central MySQL database yet.

There appears to be no root required.

Out the box mine auto updated and I was still able to connect and sideload an APK for limelight without issue.

Not sure if that's by design or it will be patched out, but as of 30/10/2014 it comes out the box with the ability to load any APK you can get your hands on.

Im on the latest firmware and was managed to Load XBMC fine through the side load. You can also use

adb push C:\path to file\file.txt \SDcard\directory

I was able to move some XBMC add ons this way.

I'm running xmbc ?

How?! Obviously others have struggled so it would be nice if you gave us a link to a tutorial at least.

Is the interface laggy? Are you able to play media stored on your PC via the network? How well can it play 1080P media (via channels or network media)? Is it easy to navigate with the remote?

In my post on my experiences with Limelight (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=27108232&postcount=70) I link to the tutorial.

You just need to find the XBMC APK. I think this should be freely available but as I don't use it I don't personally know where to find it.
