Amazon Locker. Glad I'm not short

My cousin isn't far off 7ft, thin as a broom handle too, only early 20's but has already had health issues related to his height. Although quite funny as his partner is around 5ft2 :D

I'd imagine some of these health issues are also related to his build rather than solely his height.

Being skinny can lead to its own health problems

When I was working I always had a milk/beer crate in the van (empty) If I screw stuff to the wall people have to kneel down to use it. :)

I arranged a locker to be installed at our work place for a nice yearly income, i swear to god they look at you and determine what height locker to install lol. Our locker is probably no taller than 5'10 cos im a short arse!

Agreed. Anything below 6ft is short.

Interesting that you have your settings on a short number of posts per page though. I'm still seeing just the one page for this thread of 74 posts.

:D

My excuse is that it is easier to flick through pages than trying to scroll to find a post.

Oh aye, and anyone with an income of less than £100K a year is poor.

If 5'8" is short, then tall has to be a fair bit more than 6'1". There has to be a range that's neither tall nor short. Even with the modern fashion for pretending that everything consists of only two opposing possibilities, it should be obvious that tall and short can't be the only two possibilities.

With inflation what it is, I don't think £100k gets you as far. Clearly need to up it to £150k.

Fair point. Lets go with 6ft to 6ft 6 as normal height. Anything above 6ft 6 is considered tall .

5'8 and below is short for modern day standard especially if you are below the age of 40.

Between 5'8 and 5'11 is probably average height.

Anyone taller than 5'11 is considered tall IMO. But you will have kids who are very tall and each generation is getting taller even though nutrition is getting worse. It's probably to do with the large amount of fortified foods and calories being plentiful as it's not just height that is increasing but waistlines too.

What was considered tall and fat 40 years ago is probably now average or below average.

Average adult height in the UK today is around 5'6, maybe 5'7. So at 5'8 the OP is above average adult height. Particularly for a woman. Which the OP is.

It's a bit weird how many people in this thread seem to think that every adult is a man. You must all be aware that women exist.

Average height in the UK isn't increasing all that much any more. It dropped significantly during the industrial revolution due to the appalling drop in standards of living and resulting widespread malnutrition and disease, but that was restored by a couple of generations back. From the quick look I've had, average height in the UK doesn't seem to have increased between 1970 and ~2010 (the most recent large scale data I could find). Which would make sense since widespread childhood malnutrition and disease was already a thing of the past by then.

A few sample results:

It's also worth noting that wealth was a major factor. The average height amongst people born into wealth probably hasn't changed very much in Britain the last 1000 years.

So the wealth are no longer as able to lord it over the shorties!

That is good to know, maybe the truly wealthy can buy some grow taller designer genes in the future.

You should never lump men and women into averages for height.

except when designing Amazon Lockers?

:o
Well they have designed them with that in mind surely, because during the delivery part of the checkout process short people can select their item to be put in a lower locker. This frees up more space than having only shorter locker cabinets, because people who don't need a lower locker can still make use of the higher ones. Sounds good to me.

thought the same as well. 5ft 8 would definitely be classed as short.

I'm stuffed then at 5' 4" (male). There is a reason why the suicide rate in short males is high.

Interesting. I might get those, but can you get actual trainers as well that have a high base? Not as high as platform shoes but something to add a couple of inches at the bottom while still looking like (chunky) trainers?

I’m 5’5. My dad and brother are both 6’2.

I’m highly suspicious

Similar here. Dad was 5' 9", Mum 5' 8". My sister came out as 5' 8" as well but I only came out as 5' 4" (and a load of disabilities as well to boot) although the rest of the family are healthy.

The first page has been highly entertaining.

Didn't even know Amazon had lockers.

In most countries, they're called packstations. DHL have used them in Germany long before the Amazon lockers came along.

I wouldn't be surprised if that happened. We're not extremely far from reliable gene editing and cost is bound to be a factor.

You should never lump men and women into averages for height.

You should never ignore half the adult population solely because of their sex.

If you're arguing that women shouldn't be allowed to use Amazon lockers, you might have a point. But I doubt if you're arguing that.

The OP is a woman who is 4.5 inches taller than average for women in this country and 1.5 inches taller than average for adults in this country. A country which has a higher average height than humanity in general. It's downright silly to say they're short.
